NCsoft boxes Heroes, Villains

Good Versus Evil box set bundles City of Heroes, City of Villains; includes updates to Issue 7, exclusive in-game items.

Usually when superheroes and supervillains get together, the results are city blocks leveled, death rays on the verge of decimating bustling metropolises, and lengthy commentary about an evil mastermind's plan to take over the world before someone saves the day. NCsoft is hoping that won't be the case when it brings its digital heroes and villains together later this month.

The publisher is releasing the City of Heroes Good Versus Evil Edition, which includes both City of Heroes and City of Villains, as well as all the content updates up to Issue 7: Destiny Manifest. The bundle will be released on September 29 and can be purchased for $29.99 from Wal-Mart or NCsoft's online store. The box set will also be released in the UK and Europe on the same day, with a retail price of £14.99/24.99 euros.

Also included in the deal will be exclusive in-game items such as unique costumes and powers, a bonus DVD with City of Heroes-related media, a two-sided poster, and a free month of play. After the free trial, a $15 subscription fee will cover access to both games. The subscription price in the UK will be £8.99 per month.

For more information on the T-for-Teen-rated games, read GameSpot's reviews of both City of Heroes and City of Villains.

On NCSoft's forums, it was announced that the extra content from the bundle would be available separately to current subscribers for $9.99 as an online code purchase. By my math and admittedly gamer-addled logic... $30 boxed bundle = $10 for the extra content + $15 for 1-month of access (you'd be paying it anyhow as a current subscriber) + $5 for updated install disks, the map, and any other goodies NCSoft might throw into the box... sounds good to me! This one's going on my Christmas list as a deal and an excuse to reactivate my account. :D

My question is do the people that have already been playing forever immediately get the reward or do they not start counting the time until Issue 8 launches? If it's not until issue 8 launches then yeah I'll be a little upset, but I'll eventually get over it and move on. The game still has me addicted.

The new content is coming Free in issue 8 to long turm players, there calling it a Vet reward or somthing, rewarding the long turm players apparently.

Paying real money for in-game powers and items is still bull****, but I'm so used to the bull**** of paying a monthly fee to play a game I've already bought that it's not much of an issue anymore, now that my head's lodged so deeply in my a**. What's great about this is the bonus travel power, travel powers already being one of CoH's distinguishing strengths. Additional costume pieces are nice too. The NCsoft online store sells the CoH collector's edition for $20 (with a month of play included) to current subscribers. If this new package sells for $20 with a month of play included, I'll definitely get it. There may have been some point to my posting this.

I'd never buy from Wal-Mart. I'm glad that isn't the only place to get it

Awesome idea bundling them together. The game is a blast and adding the Villains element has really expanded the playability. I keep trying other MMOs just to see what's out there but I always come back to CoX. Worth serious consideration for anybody looking for a new game to play. BTW, the $15 a month is nothing. 1 trip to the movies is that much, and here you get a lot more enjoyment for a lot longer than you'll get at the theater.

If the bundling reduces prices = great

The reason you have to pay 15 bucks a month is for upkeep of the servers. It cost money to keep the game going, for people to create new content and to have a support staff. I am glad that the people that complain about paying money don't play, less n00bs in my way. Thank god your poor.

@jared81799 Well, EA, Blizzard, Square, Valve and other companies bundle games with expansions, what's the big deal? You get the main game and all the current expansions instead of having to find and buy them seperately - usually at the same price if not lower than the game itself cost originally. NCSoft is a good company - if you don't like their games, well, that's fine too.

Popular? Latest charts say 150k+ play it. Which puts it on the winning side of most MMOs. Also $15 a month isn't too bad at all, just make sure you play at least 20 hours a month, not to mention that you find yourself buying fewer console games so it saves you money in the long run. I'm excited about this, will definitely pick up a copy if the rocket pack I've seen in screen shots is a free power. Nothin' like freeing up 2 more power choices.

Awesome. Now I have a new, updated installer disk plus goodies. I do not want to have to repatch with everything up to and including i7 if I have to reinstall, so this is quite nice.

From Kayrod29 "Why can't they just make the game free to play already? Not alot of people play this." There's quite a healthy population for both games still I don't know where you're basing your statement from. Besides, $30 bucks with free month really means the game client itself is only being sold for $15 for those who already are subscribed. It's a good deal even for those who never played it before. Access to both games with a lot of char slots in each game.

"Why can't they just make the game free to play already? Not alot of people play this." First of all, it costs a whole lot of money to keep the servers up and provide continual updates of content. Do you expect them to work for free? Secondly, where do you get the idea that the game isn't Popular? A hell of a lot of people are into CoH/V. I think that's a great deal, both games for 30$. Go NCSoft!

If we could play this thing for free I would have bought both months ago.

Prefer Villains myself. Built from the ground up with a revised engine and it has better music. This box isn't a bad deal at all, at 30 bucks - even if you only play the games for a month. Pass your account on to a friend or something when you've had your fill. All they need is a time card to keep going.

This is a good deal for people who have never played either game. So it should be nice with the added stuff. I like Heroes but was never a fan of the villains one.
