Sony has announced its update plans for NCAA GameBreaker 2004, the latest installment in 989 Sports' college football series. The most important new upgrade to the series this year is the ability to play the game online with up to three other players.

The online mode will feature a centralized 989 Sports lobby, rankings and leader boards, in-game chat (presumably via a USB keyboard), tournaments, an Xbox Live-like buddy list, and more. The game's playbooks have been completely rewritten in an attempt to more realistically mimic the various schools. You'll also be able to create your own plays and test them out in the game's practice mode. Realistic ambience is also a key to bringing the college experience home, and 989 is addressing this portion of the presentation by adding 50 polygonal mascots and animated cheerleaders to populate the sidelines.

The game will feature 28 different real-world bowl games, as well as a collection of fantasy stadiums, including a Roman coliseum, Easter Island, an aircraft carrier, a city street, and the ever-popular space alien stadium.

NCAA GameBreaker 2004 is currently on track for an August release.
