NBA Live 08 soundtrack goes globe-trotting

EA's annual pro basketball sim features 19 international artists, including Datarock, Joss Stone, DJ Vadim, and LCD Soundsystem.

Traditionally the sound most associated with basketball, hip-hop has dominated the soundtracks for past installments in EA Sports' NBA Live pro hoops sim. However, as it did earlier this month with the FIFA 08 soundtrack, EA has announced that the NBA Live 08 set list will include an international mix of styles, from hip-hop to electronic to rock.

The Hives take the court.

EA has tapped 19 acts from across the globe for the latest in its pro baller series. The eclectic soundtrack includes tunes from Norwegian dance-punk trio Datarock, Latino hip-hop/R&B crooners The Dey, and Swedish garage-rockers The Hives.

NBA Live 08 drives to store shelves on October 2 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and Wii. A PC version is also expected in late October. Free trials of the game are currently available on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network.

A full list of bands on this year's NBA Live 08 soundtrack is as follows.

I haven't of a single song on this list. Most people will probably use their custom tracks anyway.

I've only heard of 3 of those songs and maybe 6 of the artists. I agree with the others, why fix something that isn't broken?

This is so dumb. It's a basketball game. All the music you want in a basketball game is hip-hop. Yet another reason why Live sucks and will never compare to 2K.

I have no clue if these songs are good or not, but I'm just glad there's something other than hip-hop/R&B. Between Live and 2K every time I play these games I feel the need to put on a hoody, get some tats, and polish my grill.

I'm going to get straight hood on all of you. I'm a brother that lives in the hood and has lived in different ghettoes across the country. No brothers that I know has ever listened to this crap. Put an all-star cast in the soundtrack and it would bring people to the stores to buy this game just for the music. Take for instance NBA Live 2005. You had MC Lyte, The D.O.C., Young Buck, LLoyd Banks, Brand New Heavies. I have some of the songs on my MP3 player and I'm bumping it in the car. Now, give me and all-star cast like this one that mixes the old with new artists, then we'll be good to go. Peace out.....

If only EA could pick a soundtrack like Rockstar gems can. I remember Midnight Club 3 had an amazing soundtrack for every genre. And of course theres GTA.

EA should stop trying to pick songs for the game and put in custom soundtracks.

I think the reason behind this move is to save money on Royalties and what-not, cuse well known artist must charge a bundle and not so well know are just happy to get some exposure.

They need to make the damn game better. It doesn't matter who is on the soundtrack when the game is absolute garbage next to NBA 2K.
