Namco responds to Dark Souls 2 PC April 25 release date listing

"We haven't announced a PC release date yet," says Bandai Namco, despite the date popping up on its own marketing materials.

Bandai Namco has reiterated that it is yet to announced the release date for the PC version of Dark Souls II following the publication of marketing materials which featured an April 25 release date.

"We haven't announced a PC release date yet," said the publisher on Twitter. "We'll have more info to share on that front soon though!"

A Bandai Namco representative said to Siliconera that the Collector's Edition of the game shown in its marketing materials--which feature a t-shirt, cloth map, copy of the game, art book, and Black Armour Weapons Set DLC--is only for Southeast Asia.

Any PC release of Dark Souls II will follow the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 version, which will be released in North America on March 11 and in Europe on March 14. Unlike the original, the PC version of Dark Souls II will use Steamworks.

Developer From Software has previously said that the PC version of Dark Souls II will run at 60fps, as opposed to the 30fps cap on console.

30 fps on PS3 was a bad joke in Dark Souls, it felt like 10-15 fps sometimes, no way i will buy the PS3 or Even X360 version of Dark Souls 2 - 60fps on PC are just great - hope DS2 will turn out better then DS with DSfix.

A part of me is relieved that the game hasn't been announced yet, I can avoid disappointment if the game is bad by reading reviews of the console version.  Still, wouldn't mind getting the game earlier.

I feel for the PC gaming community who can't buy this game on day one. As patient as you need to be to play Dark Souls that patience doesn't carry over to waiting for game releases.

The good news is that the later release date for the PC version adds weight to the theory of a higher spec version of the game being released for PC, XBone and PS4.

"...despite the date popping up on its own marketing materials." What a mistake by the writer to imply this "marketing material" came straight from Namco. The site that posted the image gave no source and I'm pretty sure any decent marketing team knows how to spell. "Black Amour Weapon Set DLC" not ARMOR, not ARMOUR. AMOUR. It's missing an 'R'. I'm certain that any writer would look at something that lacks basic spell-checking with skepticism. I hope the writer sees this and changes a few things about his article. Hell, he could even be the first game-news writer to point this out if he's fast enough.

I can barely wait another 2 weeks, let alone months for the "PC master race" version.  lol

Well, obviously, we'll get it along with the updated PS4 and X1 version, and with free DLC i think. :3

What I've seen of DSII so far looks amazing. It'll be hard having to wait an extra month or two (??) for the PC version x_x. I guess I'll watch videos of it on youtube until then.

Nothing beats a physical copy of a game, especially on PC.  But with the rise of digital downloads, those days are...*tear*...vanishing...

All this takes me back to an argument with hermits about what From Software meant by the PC being a so called 'lead platform'. I said it meant that From would be focusing on the PC as if it were among the primary platforms, as opposed to the way they treated the PC in the original Dark Souls. As usual, hermits being hermits, insisted that it meant the PC version was developed first, and ported to the consoles. This delayed/unannounced release date for the PC clearly proves that I was right. Japanese devs will always make the console version first, then port to PC.

@el_swanno  I'll gladly bide my time and wait so I can have it with increased resolution and 60 FPS. A majority of us have a ridiculous backlog to burn through anyways.

@Brakkyn  I really miss when physical releases on PC were more than just a single page insert with a code and a disc that simply speeds up the process of installing a game through Steam, Origin, or uPlay.

Funny you say that, I found my old "Ghouls and Ghosts" Genesis cartridge just last night. I cleaned the box up and started reading through the Players Manual. Like Magic, all the music...in its 16Bit glory instantly filled my head.

You just don't get that same feeling with digital downloads.

@Brakkyn Sometimes I find myself longing for games on floppy-disk.  There is something oddly soothing about the drive clicks while loading.  It just hasn't been the same since the advent of CD-ROM.

As long as i don't have to deal with 8 year old console limitations this time around, i don't mind waiting.I'm not ready to put up with massive frame-rate drops taking me out of the experience again like it did on PS3.

Holoogamooga_
Holoogamooga_

@jhcho2 "Lead platform" generally does mean the latter. Given the six-week delay, I'd say From doesn't understand this (and has convinced me to get the PS3 version instead).

To people trying to flame me - read my comment closely. I'm pointing out that the word is missing the letter R, not debating the fact that they used British English vs. American English

@FoleyX90  Haha! Sorry to break this to you but there are various spelling differences between american, canadian and british english. Armor vs armour is one of them. In fact, a lot of words ending in «or» in american english are spelled «our» in british english.

@headbanger1186

I wish I had that kind of patience. Unfortunately I cannot wait any longer for a new Dark Souls game.

Hopefully the rumours/speculation are/is true and we'll see a high end version of the game later this year.

May the flames guide thee...

@SingletreeAve @Brakkyn  I agree totally. I'm currently selling my games as I really need the extra cash (just the ones I don't play) and it's killing me. I have Steam, so I know I can cope with digital downloads, but nothing beats looking over at my bookshelf and seeing hundreds of 360, Xbox, PS1, N64, SNES, NES and Sega games all neatly lined up.

@zerofrust @jhcho2  Everyone complains about the "PORT" of Dark Souls but you PC gamers were beggars and beggars can't be choosers. They told you before hand it was just a port.

jorgamoundr
jorgamoundr

@Holoogamooga_ @jhcho2  They may have worded it incorrectly, although it's important to remember that they *are* being translated, they're not speaking directly to us in English, and that could be a mistranslation, it could mean something else in Japanese or the translator could have used the wrong word.

But, it's pretty obvious it wasn't the latter. From cocked up the original PC port slightly (although I don't see why so many people held it against them, it was vastly improved over time and they never had any intention of porting over to PC, they just did at the behest of the fans) so why would they develop with PC primarily in mind?

The late PC release is natural for a lot of games and From probably wants to make sure they don't disappoint again is all.

The lava section of Lost Izalith used to chug a lot too. Honestly, it did very little to detract from my enjoyment of the game.

@Penguinlord1 No kidding, Dark Souls was the worst port I've ever installed on my PC. Releasing a bad port is bad enough, but then to not put out patches and instead rely on the community to fix their game is just bad form. I'm not touching DS2 until reviews say it's playable right out of the box.

Penguinlord1
Penguinlord1

@Deadlysyns87 @zerofrust@jhcho2 Still doesn't mean we shouldn't get a good product. There is no excuse for a company to charge, put out a shit product, and expect people to buy it. From Software even admitted  they did a crappy job with it. So they even knew they where wrong for what they put out as a finished port. Hell, just because the game was a port, doesn't mean it should be a mediocre one. Look at Metal Gear Rising for PC, Platinum Games first ever PC port, and they did a fantastic job for the most part. If they did a fantastic job, why couldn't From Software? Short answer, laziness. There's no excuse for that. Console gamers would be up in arms if a game performed poorly on their hardware, why can't PC gamers?

Deadlysyns87
Deadlysyns87

@Penguinlord1  But you see Metal Gear rising always intended to port to PC Dark souls was begged for and begged for i am not saying you shouldn't be upset but its the past and unchangable so stop whining about it already.

I think you got the wrong idea here...

It was running way better on my PC than it did on my PS3,that was my point. My PC had enough power to go through the performance issues with brut force. The rest was easily fixed with mods. You may enjoy massive slow down when you play games on your console...BUT I DON'T since i spent 60$ on a game.

@NosadaAssasin @FoleyX90  My intention was not to «flame» anybody. Those spelIing differences are not well known and I took for granted that he was refering to «or» vs «our». I was mistaken and i'm sorry. No need to be disrespectful. But what do I know? I'm just a retard wanna-be grammar nazi after all.
