Namco Preps New Space Shooter

Namco's Xevious, Galaga, and Starblade games have been called classics of the space shooting genre. The company is hoping to repeat this trend through a new game for the PlayStation called Star Ixiom. The game has three main game modes: Training, Command, and Conquest.

Command and Conquest modes will feature various mission-based objectives, likely in the same vein as Psygnosis' Colony Wars. In terms of graphics, it looks very much like a revved-up, interactive Starblade (where you can control your ship).

Star Ixiom will be released in Japan by the end of 1998.
