Namco Bandai bringing Ni no Kuni to US next year

Japanese publisher confirms Level-5's collaboration with Studio Ghibli to hit North American PS3s next year as Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch.

by

Ni no Kuni is coming to North America next year, courtesy of Namco Bandai. The publisher today confirmed it would be localizing the PlayStation 3 exclusive and releasing it domestically as Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch.

Namco gets the nod on Ni no Kuni.

Ni no Kuni comes from Professor Layton developer Level-5 in collaboration with Studio Ghibli, the production house behind decorated Hayao Miyazaki films, such as Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, and Howl's Moving Castle. The animation studio's part in this project includes character designs and animation, with music from composer Joe Hisashi.

Level-5 is known for its work on the Dragon Quest series, and Ni no Kuni will stick close to the studio's specialty of role-playing games. The story follows Oliver, a young boy on a quest to become a master magician in an effort to return his dead mother from a parallel world called "Ni no Kuni."

@benleslie5: "Said president and CEO of Level-5, Akihiro Hino: "We are very honored to be working with the talented Studio Ghibli and Hisaishi-san on this game. It is very exciting for us to bring the best of Japanese anime and video game cultures together, and also to bring it to players in Europe and America. We hope you will enjoy it.""

There have been virtually no good JRPGs this generation* - plus I'm a fan of Studio Ghibli; this is fantastic news. *For home consoles

hm, idk looks rather kiddie to me. I'm not as impressed by the cell shading as everyone here is though I have to admit that that world map was rather impressive, and I don't mean that lightly, I mean that it was really impressive looking. and some of the cities in the first segment of the video were also decent looking, But everything else seemed rather typical cell shading. Have to note Level-5 is making it too though so It's got a high interest rate for me, have to keep an eye on this one. might go from a high interest to a want in the future.

I am not sure if you can get the english language to do drugs. With that said, "gorgeous" and "fantastic" should do cocaine and then be used to describe this game, because gorgeous and fantastic aren't nearly descriptive enough yet. This is what cell shaded games should strive to be so far.

Basing my entire opinion on this article from the thumbnail image, i have to say I don't know what this is but anything with Inspector Clouseau from the Pink Panther cartoons must be awesome.

@Iridescent406 Yeah i know that, but the problem is, i want to buy this game, and by doing it i'm giving money to Namco Bandai as well, isn't that right? After what they did to Witcher i'm not sure i'd like that...

@NoDzombie Same hopefully doesn't take as long as demon souls although one of the joys of the PS3 is that it's region when it hits america we can get it imported in English (well American but close enough)

You know, one thing to say about Studio Ghibli: They do good work. Heck, I want to play this game just for the level of detail put into the animation. Being developed by Level 5 is just a bonus. On the other hand, I don't own a PS3... ...Drat it again!

man wht bout the ds version??

metalkitten

well if they only choose to translate the ps3 and not the ds it doesnt force me to choose atleast - but i dont get why though - its level 5 - their games always gets translated as far as i know - theyre a top studio (not to mention the animestudio too!) not only do they do good rpgs but they also do the layton games for ds like others im not too keen on namco bandai for now - dont like a greedy company to gain more money - since this game will obviously sell however did it go with namco bandai suing the small witcher studio in poland btw? and yes this might be a really good thing for jrpgs - so far not much has happened in that area this year - except for xenoblade which is awesome but it only got translated to europe - that would be the jrpg to try and beat since its once of the best in years

Iridescent406

@Raxyman - Wouldn't worry about that, they're only publishing it (thank god), unless you mean them doing something to get themselves more money from this game (I could see that). It's in the very capable hands of Level-5.

Rather would have seen news that .hack//link was getting localized, but its nice to see that they will still put out games that dont have Naruto or Goku on the cover.
