MumboJumbo working on PSP

Casual-games publisher to bring mass-appeal PC and Mac games to Sony's handheld, starting with Luxor and Platypus.

Last month, the Retail Radar picked up a couple of unusual bogeys on the PlayStation Portable release lists, specifically the downloadable PC and Mac games Platypus and Luxor. Today those two titles were confirmed as the first PSP releases from Texas-based casual games publisher MumboJumbo.

Luxor: Wrath of Set is the latest installment of an action-puzzle franchise that boasts more than 40 million downloads in the last two years. Similar to Zuma or Ballistic, Luxor requires players to destroy a field of colored balls by firing like-colored balls from a cannon. However, it also incorporates an Arkanoid-like twist in that the player's cannon can move along the bottom of the screen.

Much like the animal platypus is an unlikely amalgamation of characteristics from other animals, so too is the game Platypus distinctive. Despite being a "casual game," Platypus is squarely in the traditionally hardcore genre of side-scrolling 2D shooters. But unlike Gradius, R-Type, or Thunder Force, Platypus has its own unique visual style in that the graphics are made entirely of clay.

Luxor and Platypus will retail for $29.99 each when they are released next month.

FRY'S BABY, Timoius is right, just go to Fry's for a release title, its usually like 5-8 dollars off. I bought Hulk for the xbox for 29.99 when it first came out and I'm still playing it.

"For those of you who may knock the PSP TRY IT! and I dont mean just the games I mean the WEB,D/L GAMES,MOIVES, and AUDIO play back function." Games? Oh you mean that incredibly limited library of modest titles.

when I first saw that, I thought it was talking about a Banjo-Kazooie game for PSP......

Aw, when I saw "MumboJumbo" I thought the PSP was getting a Banjo-Kazooie game.

They would be better of getting the PS 1 games up and running for download rather than all this rubbish.

"Timonius"........ I STRONGLY agree what with you saying. I own a N64,playstation 1&2, and a DS. I too felt the PSP was pricey and did not want to buy it due to the fact that it coast more than the current ps2, but after playing my friend PSP it was a hands down decision which lead me to trade in my DS for a PSP. For those of you who may knock the PSP TRY IT! and I dont mean just the games I mean the WEB,D/L GAMES,MOIVES, and AUDIO play back function. To be honest the technology in this thing can go for a lot more than what it's worth.

In my opinion PSP needs more features and titles movie wise and game wise in order for me to buy it.

You only have to sample what the PSP has to offer to understand its pricing, it's pure technological genius in a handheld device. So when they begin to widen their compatible games even further, I can only sit back and see this as a GOOD thing. Plus, if you're paying release price for titles, something is seriously up... I haven't paid full price for a game (through various deals etc.) in years... Seriously, shop around!

WOW, SONYS #1 ISSUE IS PRICE! 30 BUCKS FOR A 10+ YEAR OLD GAME! NOT TO MINCHIN THE PSP COSTING $250. I HAVE A PSP, AND I WOULD Be ALOT MORE SATISFIED IF SONY WOULD GET REAL AND START LOWING PRICES, AND MAKE THINGS MORE AFFORDABLE. GEEZ.

I haven't played an old-school shooter like Platypus for close to 10 years now. Wow. I now have the craving. These games could end up in the bargain bin in record time if they ship at those prices. I like RaiKageRyu's idea about them being sold together.

Combine those 2 games in one pack and then subtract $10 and then will I think about it.

While these games are probably good, why the hell would I pay 30 bucks for a free game? This things should cost at least like $10...including tax.
