Ms. 'Splosion Man combusting on XBLA July 13

Twisted Pixel preempting Xbox Live's Summer of Arcade with sequel to explosion-heavy 2D platformer.

by

Twisted Pixel's 'Splosion Man proved that a gruesome mess isn't always such a bad thing when it led off Xbox Live's Summer of Arcade block in 2009. With Ms. 'Splosion Man set to reprise that action platformer this year, Twisted Pixel revealed today that the game will serve as a pre-2011 Summer of Arcade appetizer.

Today, Twisted Pixel said that Ms. 'Splosion Man will be available through the Xbox Live Marketplace on July 13. That release date comes one week in advance of the official Summer of Arcade lineup, which includes Toy Soldiers: Cold War, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, Fruit Ninja, Bastion, and From Dust.

Ms. 'Splosion Man is not a lady to be trifled with.

A follow-up to the original 'Splosion Man, Ms. 'Splosion Man is also a fast-paced 2D platformer, in which players self-combust their way through vibrantly colored, lighthearted levels. The game includes 50 single-player stages as well as an additional 50 levels that can be played in a multiplayer setting.

Beyond new stages, Twisted Pixel said that it had provided a number of updates to the 'Splosion Man formula, including new gameplay mechanics, enhanced network support, and original music. The game also includes collectibles that unlock behind-the-scenes looks at the game's creation.

Twisted Pixel did not reveal a price point for Ms. 'Splosion Man.

It will probably be $15 bucks, but I'm a big fan of Twisted Pixel and know that it'll definitely have more than $15 worth of content. I got the first game for 2 bucks on Black Friday last year and feel like I ripped them off considering how much enjoyment I got out of it. I've been waiting for a release date on this game for a long time.

@ y3ivan Thx for the clarification. The last dev video I had watch was for the upcoming Xbla Crimson Alliance and they said they had zero control over either so they must be one of the unfortunate ones. I'm just happy we get to try them all in demo form and they most games seem to go on sale eventually.

@Real_MacDeath wrong. It a case to case basis. however promotion and sales are heavy depending on MS and developers agreement. This is current recommended price scheme by MS of XBLA titles 2gb for 1200MSP and 600mb - 1gb for 800MSP. Publisher have the right to adjust it. twisted pixels are very close to MS team, some titles are exempted similiar to CJ.

@ SolidTY From what I've learned watching numerous developer interviews and following their blogs that not only do they not control the price point but MS also has total control over the release date of the game.

@Solidty - I am currently doing the Ms. Splosion Man public beta right now and it is a HUGE improvement over the already good Splosion Man. They have packed so much and added a ton to the game. Even if it is $15, I can see myself definitely dropping that for a day 1 purchase.

@shaedar I couldn't agree more. Even though there won't be, we can hope there is giberish option. Saying random pop song lyrics is a pretty naff idea.

Looks as good as the original (i.e. awesome), though she speaks more than I was expecting - part of the appeal of the original was that most of what came out of the protagonist was gibberish rather than random pop song lyrics.
