Ms. Pac-Man chomps on XBLA

Pac-Man's better half headed to Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday; arcade classic will cost 400 Microsoft points ($5).

Slightly NSFW Ms. Pac-Man.

As the saying goes, "Behind every great man is a great woman," and gaming icon Pac-Man is an arcade legend. The yellow pill-popper made his way to Xbox Live Arcade last August, and this week will see the missus follow suit.

Ms. Pac-Man has been announced as this week's Xbox Live Arcade Wednesdays title, and will be available January 10 at 1 a.m. PST. Like other classic arcade titles ported over to the Xbox 360, Ms. Pac-Man will cost 400 Microsoft points ($5).

The game will feature "all 255 mazes from the original," 12 achievements, and a free demo that includes the first two levels of the game. Ms. Pac-Man, published by Namco Bandai Games, is rated E for Everyone.

pacman and ms pacman is the crappiest games ever crapped and crap, gets boring and repetitive after the first level!

Pac-Man should be bundled with Ms. Pac-Man for five dollars. And it needs a better controller than the XBOX 360 D-pad or stick.

Excellent. Hopefully this is the fast version and not the slow.

I would love to see Killer Instinct, Quake 1, Doom 2, Duke Nukem 3D, Castlevania, original XBLA titles, Mortal Kombat 2... Ms. Pac is cool, but I rather see something more worth while. And agreed, Pac was an easy 200 pts, I hope its a bit more challenging. But I have a feeling they will be similar...

Ugh, deliver Castle Crashers please!

Ok, now how about a new game? XBLA seems to do better with new properties than the old classics.

Sweet! I'll probably buy this game in the future! I'm disappointed in Microsoft though. They already have Pacman on the arcade, and Ms. Pacman seems a little bit unecessary.

I'm curious how this will affect the Ms. Pac man already available for the original xbox for xbox live arcade. Will the leaderboard be discontinued for that game?

Like many others I'm waiting for the newer 360 arcade games like Castle Crashers and Alien Homonoid. I thought that game was suppose to be out last year? What's the deal?

A personal quarter-muncher for me. But maybe I'll wait for the Pac/Ms./Jr. Trifecta bundle.

Ms Pacman has always been a favorite to many gamers who remember what arcade gaming was all about before more powerful home consoles killed the Arcades. Yes Ms Pacman is favored over Pacman by many who hung out at the original machines when they first hit the arcades. The game was faster and the mazes had a different structure to them. Also the game seemed to control better due to the slight speed increase. I've always prefered Ms Pac over Pac. I agree that most of the games Namco has picked were not good picks as all of these games appear to be part of the original Xbox system's "Namco Museum 50th Anniversary" disc and can be played due to backwards compatibility on the 360. As is the case of most of the Sega Genesis Sonic games and will eventually be the case with the Capcom games. I really hope Microsoft doesn't go the Wii Virtual Console route unless it is putting Neo Geo or true arcade games on the console aswell as indie games. I would rather have arcade type games as the name indicates XboxLive Arcade. I own a Wii and a 360 yet can't find myself purchasing anything off Virtual Console. 8bit/16bit was fun but I find it harder to go there when I could go Arcade. Hopefully XBLA will grow into something bigger this coming year.

I wouldn't mind Quake 1, we have Doom 1, so why not? And Quake 1 is still a good game.

I just can't see why anyone would pay for such an old game. I already own this on the Xbox why should I pay to have it on my 360.

Personally, I'm wondering why all these people are getting up in arms about this--you knew what kind of 'retro' selections would be available when you signed up for the service. If you're that bugged about it--there's MAME for the arcade games, and emulators for most if not all of the consoles involved. Or, for the people who *like* spending a good chunk on their gaming habit, the *real thing* can be found for maybe $400, depending on where you look (The real thing being the arcade unit itself). Someone mentioned the $10 multi-game standalone 'consoles'--which version of the game do those use, anyway? A new version specifically for the unit, one of the existing console versions, or a Mame-like copy of the original arcade game? If the latter, cool--otherwise...console versions of Pac-man variants tend to not be very good. That same question goes for the XBL version, for that matter.

I keep hearing about big chunks of games coming to Wii and PS3, sorry Microsoft but you're gonna have to ramp up the XBLA releases a bit. Releasing a single barely-worth-five-bucks retro game once a week isn't going to cut it.

kinglink2
kinglink2

Hmm let see Wii has multiple games per week, even on a crappy week they get 2 games out. Microsoft gets 1 game a week that is moderately interesting? I think Nintendo is pulling ahead with out even pulling out the big dogs (SNES and N64 games). Microsoft needs to get off their ass and start putting out higher quality games, because Ms. Pacman is not going to beat the classic line ups which has more weekly options than the Xbox 360.
