MotorStorm RC races to PS Vita and PSN

Radio-controlled spin-off announced for off-road racing series; one purchase grants access on PS3 and PS Vita alike.

by

The PlayStation Vita release is three months away, and its launch will bring a number of familiar Sony franchises like Uncharted and Wipeout. This latest announcement may not quite make the new handheld's launch, but it will bring another Sony franchise into the mobile mix.

Big-time racing in tiny vehicles.

Sony today announced MotorStorm RC for the PS Vita and PSN, a spin-off set to shrink the Sony off-road racing series down to handheld-friendly, radio-controlled size. Developed by series creator Evolution Studios, MotorStorm RC will deliver 16 different tracks set in four familiar environments, with many of the vehicle types from previous games making a return.

MotorStorm RC will be a "Pay once, Get both" game, so players need to buy only one version to gain access to the game on both the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita. The different versions will be interoperable, but the PS3 version will offer a four-player split-screen mode. Other features, like the Pitwall--which lets players track challenges and friends' activity--will be accessible in both versions.

This is not the first Sony racing franchise to spawn an RC-based spin-off. Twisted Metal was treated to its own diminutive iteration in 2001's Twisted Metal Small Brawl on the original PlayStation.

MotorStorm RC is set to hit the PSN and PS Vita in spring 2012. Pricing has not yet been revealed.

they should do this more often especially for arcade games... buy on either platform and get it for both. Also if you buy a full 60$ version of a ps3 game the vita (cheaper) one should be given free.

I would have preferred Renegade for the Vita. I already have it for the PS3, it should be free for the VITA.

Really want the Vita. Gonna wait til a few decent games get released before i buy it tho, already made that mistake with the PS Move. Sony made the Move sound like it will be the best thing ever, its a great piece of hardware, but basically no good games for it.

Great news about only having to pay once. If this is a common thing I'll probably be buying a Vita sooner than I though I would be.

Great news on the PS3 and Vita version for one price. Sony really need to push this for most future games on PS3, Vita and PS4.

Sweet news... Micro Machines was one of my all time favourites... does anyone remember the Codemasters J-cart that allowed you to plug two extra controllers in for four player awesomeness, no extra peripherals needed? Speaking of Codemasters, I've heard Dizzy is coming back - huzzah!

Don't really care about the Motorstorm series but I do like the idea of buy the game once and get to play on both the PS3 and Vita. This is definitely a trend that should be continued.

Vita news coming thick and fast today! While I love the idea of a new MS game, especially if it's gonna be on Vita, please, for the love of god, SONY/Evolution/BigBig or whoever makes it, please tone done the frustration level of the game for portables! throwing a 30 pound Controller through gamer rage is one thing, but hurling a 300 quid portable console because the game pissed me off couple turn out expensive! EDIT: GS, please fix your comment settings. Putting the symbol for GB Pound is picked up by your error trapping as bad HTML

I may be wrong but this sounds a lot like Micro machines without weapons from back in the day; that's a good thing. Unlikely to happen but weapons would be a nice addition in a top-down racer like this.
