Swedish developer Digital Illusions has announced that it is developing Motorhead2 for the Sony PlayStation 2 console. The original Motorhead was a futuristic city-based racing game featuring concept cars, and it was released for the PC and PlayStation platforms. According to the developers, the sequel will build on the original concept and bring it into the next generation.

"Motorhead2 means that we will be significantly raising the standard and creating a automobile racing game that gives the player an experience far beyond that which is expected," explained Marcus Nystrom, senior artist on the Motorhead2 project. "One of our major objectives is to be pioneers who create new trends in the industry, which is what we are doing by developing this new game."

"Naturally, we felt that a popular game like Motorhead required a successor," said Mikael Rudberg, vice-CEO of Digital Illusions. "Thanks to our long and extensive experience of racing games, and the technological advances represented by the PlayStation 2, we now have an opportunity to develop a game that fulfills our visions. Motorhead2 will also establish the position of Digital Illusions as one of the leading developers of games for the PlayStation 2."

Digital Illusions is currently in negotiations with several publishers regarding Motorhead2. It is expected that the game will be released in the first half of 2002. Fox Interactive published the original Motorhead game.
