NetherRealm teases that new netcode could be implemented.
Improvements could be on the way for Mortal Kombat X's online multiplayer, based on a hint from series creator Ed Boon.

Boon, who has a habit of teasing announcements ahead of time on Twitter, today sent out a message that reads, "So much more GOOD news on the horizon for the Mortal Kombat X GAME beyond Kombat Pack 2. Stay tuned, and PEACE OUT!" This was accompanied by a screenshot of the game with the Mortal Kombat X name and "Peace Out" laid over the top of it.
Seemingly innocuous, the words he chose to capitalize may not be random. As one fan tweeted at him, the first letter of those four words comes out to GGPO. (Boon's response: "Hmm... Interesting theory.") GGPO or Good Game Peace Out is the name for a well-regarded predictive netcode created by programmer Tony Cannon which has been used in a number of fighting games in the past.
Mortal Kombat X's online performance was criticized at launch, though it did improve (at least for some players) in the ensuing months. It arguably remains a weak point for those who continue to play the game online, and developer NetherRealm Studios may be aiming to address that.
We know NetherRealm plans to announce something tomorrow, January 15. NetherRealm community manager Tyler Lansdown teased this on Twitter today, saying, "Some fun news coming tomorrow." His tweet was punctuated with "GGs," further suggesting that the company plans to implement GGPO in the game.
Earlier this week, NetherRealm unveiled the first gameplay footage of the upcoming batch of DLC characters. Those include Alien's Xenomorph and a Cyrax-Sektor-Robot Smoke hybrid.
