Developers at Blizzard Entertainment are working on adding more than 100 new cards to its popular collectible card game, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft.

Eric Dodds, the game's lead designer, told MMORPG that the Hearthstone team is pondering how to introduce such a large collection of cards to the game without too much disruption.

He added that the new booster pack would be introduced in a different manner to the Naxxramas DLC, which unlocked 30 cards across the space of five weeks, though each one had to be earned by completing a challenge.

"It’s going to be over 100 cards and it’s certainly going to be very different from Naxxramas, which was designed to put a smaller number of cards into play," Dodds said.

"We don't want to create this large number of cards and overwhelm players, but at the same time, with this new expansion, we want to provide a large number of cards with additional options for the hardcore.

"So, exactly what those cards are and exactly what those ratios are, partially we're still working on them, and partially we’ll be talking about that in the future."

Dodds didn't offer an estimate on when the new cards would be introduced.

Also in the interview, Dodds was asked about the controversial 'Zoolock' deck which has proven to be a particularly difficult deck to overcome.

"We have no plans right now to change the Warlock's hero power"

Some players have stated that the Warlock's hero power--which is draw an additional card at the cost of two damage--will need to be amended in order to curb its advantage. Dodds believed that such measures would likely be too extreme.

"We have no plans right now to change the hero power, because the hero power has ramifications, but after we do additional investigation, nothing is off the table, it's just that our first step to try to make balance right is introducing new cards and our second, more extreme, set would be changing something.

"Like, changing a hero power is kind of crazy talk, but on the other hand, it’s certainly, to make the game great, we’re not taking everything or anything off the table.

"Some things, like, for Zoo, I expect it to be strong for a while, it’s been kind of a staple for a while, so we’re probably going to have to poke at it some more, but we certainly want to let it run for a while and then talk about do we need to add additional cards in the meta game and then we’ll talk about more extreme things. So, we’re still talking about it."

Within the first month of Hearthstone's full release, following an extended beta period, more than ten million players had registered an account for the game.
