More Halo: Reach DLC coming 'very soon' - Microsoft

Xbox Live's director of programming says futuristic sci-fi shooter getting second volley of downloadable content.

Bungie's Halo: Reach--the final Halo effort from the studio--was released in September to warm reception and minted over $200 million in its first 24 hours. The game has since welcomed the three-map Noble Map Pack add-on on November 30. But according to Microsoft, Bungie's postrelease efforts aren't yet over.
The carnage will continue in Reach's next add-on.

During a recent Inside Xbox video (viewable through the Xbox 360), Xbox Live's director of programming, Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb, said Halo: Reach fans can "expect another add-on coming very soon." Unfortunately, he did not name the map pack or offer any additional details.

While Bungie has yet to make any mention of a Noble Map Pack follow-up, the developer has an established history of supporting its titles postrelease. Halo 3 welcomed three batches of map packs during its lifetime: the Heroic Map Pack, the Legendary Map Pack, and the Mythic Map Pack.

"@Anteraan : I know about score attack. That was not the point of my words. Many of the achievements and challenges are specific and since you cannot CHOOSE the map or gametype from the beginning you end up in a coin toss hoping it eventually comes up." - DarthVeng_basic Whenever a specific map is mentioned in a challenge, it's in Campaign or Firefight Matchmaking. In both cases, you CAN choose the map, period. That was my point. And in Score Attack, not only can you choose the map, you can choose one of 3 different game types at that time to help you meet that challenge.

They should make new Forge world and like atleast 3 new multiplayer maps. I'd want also like one free map like Halo 3

I would like some Halo and Halo 2 remakes. Anyone remember Battle Creek or Turf? What about Backwash? Perfect for zombies.

i hope they release some capaign add-ons, cuz the campaign took place during the summer and since they skipped a lot of dates maybe somewhere between those dates noble six teamed up with Ecko Team, or other Spartan Teams on REACH.

I'd love some singleplayer DLC to be honest, and some forge world items to allow me to make forerunner and covenant bases.

Hopefully it's not terrible like the last map pack. Three average looking maps for too much Microsoft points. I hope they make at least four maps for 800 Microsoft points i might buy it then. But if it's like the last one where i'm getting only two maps since i don't play big team battle at all and it's over priced then no i won't buy it.

If it's more overpriced map packs then I'm out. I want a Jun SP DLC or new weapons/vehicles not some rehashed maps from Halo3

@Anteraan : I know about score attack. That was not the point of my words. Many of the achievements and challenges are specific and since you cannot CHOOSE the map or gametype from the beginning you end up in a coin toss hoping it eventually comes up. It is unenjoyable and frustrating. Everyone I know who plays Reach shares this opinion. I know the game, I am not stupid, I am in the gold ranks and only have 7 more Achievements to unlock. And, there is not need to insult.

This is good news to me,I just got my 1st next gen system a couple weeks ago and just started Halo 3:) Deciding on which console to get was hard as hell, but in the end Xbox has Halo so had to do it:P

The first map pack was decent. I hope this next one has a second forgeworld.

"@DarthVeng_basic Seriously? All you do is go into Score Attack and keep choosing none until Beachead shows up. I did that challenge in like 10 minutes." Seriously, +1! Darth, learn the game and its various modes, and you'll find the challenges get MUCH easier. You may even enjoy the game more. As a bonus, you'll make fewer dumb comments. ;)

Considering how crappy the Noble Map Pack was, I can't get too excited for this announcement.

@GOR_TAK that would be fantastic if they did that. this being my first halo that i've played online, that would be SWEET. i've played the sp campaigns of the other games and a lots of local VS., but online mp is a whole different beast (esp since i was best among all my buds locally, but got my bell rung the first week of online mp, lol). great idea. i hope bungie, or whoever's doing the map packs are listening.

How about just releasing ALL the old maps for free or dirt cheap as a thank you to your rabid fans you've milking all these years. Absolutely no reason why it couldn't be done.

Reach is good but nothing holds a candle to the Halo CE campaign and Halo 2's multiplayer. They just added more crap they didnt need and started to head in a more COD direction to try to lure those players in. You dont trade in your gold for crap. I dont want a game thats like COD. I want it to be what made halo.. halo. This new map pack better have all the old maps for free and some new good maps not bull crap big team battle maps that take 30 min to walk to the other side of the map.

Reach isn't even THAT great TBH. I love Halo, but.. I don't know. I just preferred most, not nearly all of Halo 3's multiplayer, but especially Halo 2's story.

Im pretty excited for this. The only problem i have is that if im not playing the DLC playlist I hardly get matches with people who own the maps. I really dont mind paying 800MSP for the DLC (even if it is only 3 maps), i just wish the matchmaking for DLC owners was better.

karloss01
karloss01

still waiting for the first to become free, they ripped me off on the last three map packs for halo 3 as they either became free, had a price reduction or were added to ODST after i had just bought them at the full 800MSp.

i had the points to get the map pack but not that many ppl are online compared to weaker match types in the original matchmaking choices

@Ovirew : I don't like not being able to choose myself. I get real sick of playing for 4 hours just to get the bloody map to even come up as an option to play on. It doesn't work. It is a waste of time and frustrating.

I could see why they wouldn't detail anything just yet seeing as Noble is still sorta fresh. Would be nice if they added more than just maps though.

MicroHolic

They need to make a bunch of differant maps for each game type. For example they need to make maps for swat only suitable for swat not give you a huge map to play on like sword base. The same for team snipers and slayer and so on. They need to bring back all the H2 and H1 maps plus and new ones

Wish they would release 4 maps for 800 ms points for these DLCs. I would definitely buy it then. A new firefight map and 3 new mp maps would be nice(or two new firefight maps).

@Franzkill its why i still play games on the PC like CS, TF2 etc ... we make our own maps and the originality is far beyond what developers are willing to make you fish money out for.

i miss the days when developers released these things called "expansion packs" which included a new campaign, new multiplayer maps and all sorts of other new features that generally would breathe new life into *insert game*. i'm tired of all this half-assed downloadable content... i used to really think it was a great idea... now i've come to realize it's simply a disguised kick in the teeth.

jasonzilla11
jasonzilla11

awesome. i loved the noble map pack maps, but bungie, do you think you could add 4 maps instead of 3 in an 800 ms map pack? i bet more people would buy it. just my opinion

K5Stalker

@Ovirew Your argument is invalid. Dedicated servers have map rotations and let you choose your starting map through a server menu, it works in every other game. Most of the time, the majority of players are going to stay in the game even after map rotation. It could probably even work with matchmaking, filtering for a particular map when you choose for exemple.

Ovirew

@balfe1990 Man, that would be a great batch of DLC, especially the Noble 6 backstories idea. One aspect of the game I felt was lacking was the depth of the characters in the campaign, so getting to know all of them better would be nice - even 6 maybe.

@Franzkill lol i would never want a game to have the same maps till the next game releases
