BioWare didn't wait long before augmenting Dragon Age: Origins with downloadable content; it didn't wait at all, in fact. When Dragon Age shipped for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on November 3, players who picked up new copies of the dark fantasy role-playing game were given free access to The Stone Prisoner (a $15 add-on, otherwise). EA also offered the Warden's Keep expansion for $7 (MSP560) on day one.

Following through with its promise to continue supplying Dragon Age with new DLC over the next 12 months, BioWare announced today the latest add-on pack, Return to Ostagar. The add-on pack will be available for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC sometime this holiday season for $4.99 (MSP400).
SPOILER ALERT
As its name may imply, the Return to Ostagar pack revisits an early-game scene in which the infernal darkspawn overrun King Cailan and his Grey Warden entourage, after the Fereldan monarch is betrayed by his advisor, Loghain. In the add-on pack, gamers will quest for Cailan's armor and weapons, as well as get more insight into his political agenda and secrets.

Discussion
DLC aside... I just hope the sequel to this isn't picked up by obsidion, who seems to ooze fail all over bioware sequels. (kotor2, NwN2) neither of which were horrible just not as good as their bioware counterparts
re:Brain While I share the price gouging sentiment, I think that there is still a right way to justify payment for DLC. If the game is constantly updated and supported in addition to expanded, especially for a period of time well beyond that of it's original development (12-36 months for example) those responsible should absolutely be compensated for their hard work. However that isn't typical in the industry. Instead, completed, original content is increasingly being withheld, or unfinished content released early, (say 12-36 months) under the guise of 'expansions' or 'add-ons' to justify additional payments/preorders for the same 'base' product. It's a facade, but by and large the consumer is indifferent.
hey it's more dragon age. i have no complaints. just wish it would come out already.
@ Braintreema This isn't any sort of attack on you or your intelligence, but you do know that this is an industry right? They are out to make money, now I understand your argument, but you have to understand others as well when stating your own. This approach in the video game industry isn't an attempt to sell exclusive content or anything like that. What you are buying when the DLC's come out and you buy them first chance, you are buying time, literally that is all you're buying. So I do agree with you that it is horrible that this is what it has become, but you merely just have to look at it from an industries point of view, they want money, they want to make their fans happy, so they sell them "time", it is actually quite funny, but pay no attention to my view on the situations hilarity for I two am apart of that scandal. All I ask for is that you take these words in good heed "If the kindness in your heart has desiccated and dissolved look at your fellow species and see that each one of them has something to offer and everyone has an ideal that we could all follow."
I have an idea. I'll wait 12 months and buy the GOTY edition with all this extra dlc at half the price. I learned my lesson from Fallout 3. DLC (that you pay extra for) is price gouging IMO. Kinda mad that this is the future of gaming...hope you all saved up your money.
I honestly wouldn't mind a full blown expansion for DLC. More races (I wouldn't mind playing as a qunari), other major missions and things of that nature. I hate the idea of an XP cap but...then again it seems to take a while to level up in this game also. So in closing...expansion, not just DLC throw ins.
I thought it was 2 years. Oh well, sounds cool.
amazing game done it twice now on my third time and still lovin the game, cant wait for the new dlc sounds qaulity but are there going to be achievements for it
will i be able to play DLC's after finishing the game?

@Thomasskins Side quests give you experience. So basically the max level you can get is from doing every side quest and killing every creature in the game.
I just hope there will be more loot and armor in it cause the first one didn't have lots of armor and weapon type.
TYPO:- If you hit max XP level and you still can 'Do' side quests?
If you hit max XP level and you still can no side quests will there be any compensation xp like extra gold, btter drops ect? I also wanted to ask, how complicated is it to play thyis game when 1st starting (lurning curve) because i need to be able t know i can control my heroes without spamming random spells and hopinf for the best lol. Also does anyoneknow how this game compares to Oblivion on the PS3? Thnaks...
The level cap isn't really a hard "You hit the max the programmers want you to have" level cap, but more of a "no more XP to be had" level cap.
@Trinitarian Level 25 is the barrier. Once you reach 25, then you don't earn any more EXPs.
@Trinitarian There is no true level cap, but I'd venture that most players end the game around level 20 or so. My warrior finished the game at level 22, and I've heard of people who finished at level 18.
@Rottenwood I would agree that Bioware always will make must have games, though I really do hate alot of the tech issues that come with it, but they are so deep, immersive with intricate story plots etc, it's understandable that there would be a few bugs. I just hope they fix that weird pop-in layering thingy that plagued MassEffect. Oh just f.y.i, Ubisoft is my favy developer just because they seem to be on a differ level then most gaming companies out there. I can't put my finger on why, but I just would love to work with them.
@eljones what is the level cap anyway?
i'f i'm right they announced that new DLC will be 1 year not anymore 2 so they will launch sequel game after 1 year.
@TheTrueMagusX1 Is BioWare my favorite developer? That's a close call. I'd lean towards yes, but I'm not sure anyone makes games as purely enjoyable as Nintendo does. I'd give it to Nintendo on style points because their games don't have the collection of technical issues that BioWare's games are cursed with. BioWare is still a 'pre-order, first-day pickup' developer, though. One of the few.
whatever the new add on content might be, I DEMAND a perfect conclusion on morrigan romance, that's all. if Bioware hold that to DA2 then I won't buy another bioware game.
All I can say is I HATE LEVEL CAPS. I havent reached it yet in this game ( I'm at 15 ) but I remember capping out in Fallout 3 and then being like..well F it, I'm gonna go beat it and be done with it. Add-ons are great and expansions are great but I want to be able to level up on respawns and re-pops. Not grinding, but if I want to level up a skill and don't want to progress in the story, then that should be my choice. That is why FF is my all time Fav. RPG. I can level up to 99 if I want. Hell I would get on there and do nothing but level my toons for hours sometimes. On this game, there are no re-pops in the already explored areas. Which is a total downer. Other than that, I look foward to the additions... but can a brotha get some re-spawns? wtf. BTW I love this game, play it all the time. I can think of a ton of things I would change but all in all it was worth the $50 dollars I spent.
also something i forgot was PLEASE BIOWARE increase the level cap for each territory on the way to the Anderfels by like 10 each time, that way we'll be around lvl 50 or 60 and would have a really deep custome made character. I still see this game very captible of adding even more classes added to each archytype "scout/mage/warrior" and even being able to make a Stone Golem at character creation screen, that'd be pretty sweet...
i still don't see HOW they will add all the territories in Thedas in JUST TWO years... Unless they've already got a build for allll the territories and are just filling it in as they go, there's NO WAY they can release up to 9 extra LARGE territories inwhich ALL are larger than the Initial Fereldon territory that is where the game starts. I just don't see (at this rate) how they can even release all 9 territories in TWO YEARS!!! I have a feeling something will happen and us dragon age fans who bought this are going to be cut slap off(which i HOPE NOT). But as long as this game took to make with just Ferelden I just don't see the rest of the map filled out in even 3 years time. Also it's GREAT to see new DLC, but this is really small dlc, even the stone prisioner was TOO SMALL to be called an actual "expansion". Expansions to most of us would be considered to be an add on territory in size and content. Would be nice if they could pop out lore/extra loot/quest out every other week for DLC and release a territory appropriate to the story every few months and give reason for these smaller dlc packages. I love the idea, but "return to Ostogar?" How many times do we have to play Ostogar already when we play multi characters in the game.... Be nice if they'd had added a new dungeon atleast as a holiday treat.... oh well we'll have to settle on this, hopefully there will be a suprise also coming this holiday...Butt his game IS AWESOME!
I bought this game tuesday and it is so freakin awesome...it took me a bit to get into it but when I got to the ostergard(?) battle i just got hooked :D
i can't wait to play this game.
@makidabest I agree with you completely. This is an RPG for gods sake, we want more lore and more places to explore. There's plenty of room for it in this game.
I don't want a DLC.... I want a sequel or expansion!! Because I want more race, spells, classes, prestige class, and larger world!!
@thesovvolf I agree with you on that one. It would be interesting to see more of the world. I would hope that they opt to create an expansion to do that though, rather than DLC. An expansion would allow them to give that content a proper treatment, whereas DLC would likely be 'pocket adventures'.
Hope this game would be as mod heaven as Oblivion!
awesome - can't get enough of Dragon Age. Glad I got the PC version though - as the modding community is starting to produce a lot of new content through the editor.
sweet, that armor was great looking
this game kicks ass. In fact other developers should take Bioware as a role model because this game deserves GOTY 2009 and more.
this game is going to cost me a frigen monthly fee... to keep us all happy and give us a sence of value, they should throw us another free-bee... and not a crappy one. a decent quest with a worthy item or two. oww... and a level
@sircyrus I have to admit I was overly enthusiastic when I posted that this morning (Too much coffee) and I don't really think it's going to be 130 but I think it depends on the DLC, the DLC brought out with it were short but I think that was due to them working on the game and the DLC at the same time. I think now they've stopped on the game they'll have more time to create better and longer DLC... they may not, they could just keep releasing gimmicky small missions, but the potential is there. On the Special Edition DVD they mention Ferelden being only a small part of the world so maybe we'll get to see more in the DLC, Orlias was mentioned alot... that would be interesting to see. All I'm saying is that I'm keeping my eye out for it.
@thesovvolf Doubtful. The DLC don't add that much content to the game. Both of the DLC's out right now are only 30-60minutes of content. They'd have to add dozens of DLC's to bring the game's length up to 100 hours if they remain as lenghty as Stone Prisoner or Warden's Keep. At which point you'd be paying out the whazoo for this game.
I was going to pre-order this game until i found out they are releasing all of this DLC. I might as well wait until there is quite a lot of DLC available!
Just some thing floating around in my head... I'm just wondering, with a constant supply of DLC over the year... how long do you think will be in total.. I mean I partly rushed my first game and it took me a good 40/50 hours... on my second playthrough I'm taking my time... how long is this game going to last?... 70-80 hours? I have all the DLC too. By the end of the year will I be playing a 110 hour game? 130?.
Fantastic. Loved this game and anything that adds more content is okay by me. In fact this and Mass Effect are the only 2 games where I've bought all the DLC.
Anything that continues this game will be nice. I also wouldn't mind seeing some additional classes as the warrior seems kind of useless with 6 other warriors in the game. Rogue main character has some use and is a lot of fun. The mage was a toss up because I liked having Morrigan and Allistair in a group and listening to them bicker off and on is a real hoot. Plus, Wynn is kind of a must at times. Still, blowing things up is always a lot of fun! I just hope Bioware keeps up their track record for the best games in the PC industry.
Great! I'd like it.
They probably had all these DLCs pre-made before launch and arn't actually developing anything. They should be working on the Dragon Age 2 already!!!! P.S. the easiest way to beat dragon age is to make a mage character, then get morrigan, wynne, and alistair. I beat the end boss on Normal first attempt. Infact 3 mages 1 tank, is very over powered, im replaying it now playing as a rogue.
I don't see what the big deal is about paying for DLC. The game (before the DLC) is quite long. Well worth the $50 I payed for it on the PC. If they want to charge me $5 for another few more hours of gameplay I'll pay it because I would have easily payed $70 for a game so fun and lengthy. I have had a blast with the game and I cant wait for Mass Effect 2.
nickle and dime
@MaddenBowler10 I prefer Leliana :D
morrigan is hot
@comachrissie TOTALLY agreed. But on the other hand...developers finish their games quite a while before they actually hit the streets so perhaps it was within this time that they worked and finished the DLC. I haven't finished this game and only played it for an hour so my decision to buy this DLC will have to be deferred till later. I hope I love the game and end up buying the DLC though :P
nice, love this game and cailans armour looks pretty good.
sircyrus, I'm not sure that's entirely true across the board. Bethesda, for instance, releases a slew of DLCs, but most of them are pretty lengthy. (Don't mention Horse Armor for Oblivion, that's obviously not what I'm talking about.) The DLCs for Fallout 3 added a fair amount of content.. and if you just wait for the GotY editions, you get all this content and the main game for $40, which hardly seems unreasonable, considering how much overall gameplay has been added by then. BioWare, on the other hand, seems dedicated to releasing snippits of content. Some people will pay good money for a new suit of armor. For me, my Armor of Diligence/Dragon Bone Armor is good enough.
