More Devil's Third coming early 2012

Tomonobu Itagaki explains his next action game's absence from Tokyo Game Show, tells Japanese press that the title is 20 to 30 percent complete.

by

TOKYO--Early last year, Dead or Alive creator Tomonobu Itagaki revealed he would be taking up a chief technical officer role at Valhalla Game Studios, following the settlement of a long-standing lawsuit with former employer Tecmo.

Expect more on Devil's Third next year.

The former Tecmo developer then revealed that his first project with Valhalla will be a third-person shooter for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 called Devil's Third, an announcement made during last year's Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles.

Since the announcement of the title in June 2010, Itagaki has kept relatively quiet on the project. Now, it seems he is nearly ready to share more details.

Speaking to Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, and as translated by Japanese gaming news site Andria Sang, Itagaki revealed the game is missing from this year's Tokyo Game Show due to a PR strategy surrounding the release schedule for the game.

However, Itagaki assured Famitsu readers that development on Devil's Third is progressing well, saying it has progressed to the 20 percent to 30 percent completion state, and it has become even higher tempo. According to Itagaki, the game's player count has increased since it was last shown. He's only promising 16-player support in the final game but is hoping the development team can make it support 32-player matches.

Itagaki also revealed that he will be showing off a completely new level of Devil's Third sometime in early 2012.

Keeping an eye on this. Though it doesn't seem half as awesome an IP as Ninja Gaiden from what I've seen so far.

Ok guys, game progression through time isn't exactly a linear. I wouldn't take that number very seriously..he's probably neglecting a lot of time spent on the conceptual and engine mechanics groundwork rather than polished content.

@Yulaw2000 I know right I mean at this rate which is a '"20 to 30 percent completion state,"' for every year, 3 months, and 5 days of development it should take them anywhere from 6 more years, 2 more months, and 15 more days to 2 1/2 more years and 10 more days for it to be 90 percent complete. Does this mean they need more time? Is a) a push back coming up or will b) they be patching it from its initial day of release to further complete the game post-release?This is a marketing strategy it is further along than that. This is being said to build hype by word of mouth so they can cut spending on advertisement and put more of it into research and development.

A 32-player 3rd person shooter? Is he aiming to take on Star Wars: Battlefront 2?

"20 to 30 percent complete" I was hoping it would be a bit further along than that.

Really been keeping a close watch on this game. I feel like the only way shooters can evolve and appeal for me are if they go 3rd person with mobility and melee action as well.

I hope this game can live up to the pedigree Itagaki set with Ninja Gaiden, because the next Ninja Gaiden sure as hell won't.
