On Tuesday in Japan, SquareSoft announced more details regarding monthly fees for Final Fantasy XI on the PlayStation 2. Users will pay a monthly fee of 1280 yen ($10) and an additional fee of 100 yen ($.77) per month for each additional character. The game will be free for the month of purchase, though users will still have to pay fees for additional characters that month. Payments are accepted by major credit cards such as Visa, MasterCard, and JCB. Users can also use WebMoney, which can be purchased through the Internet or at convenience stores nationwide in Japan.

SquareSoft's PlayOnline service begins May 16 in Japan. Final Fantasy XI for the PlayStation 2 is also scheduled for release on the same day. The package is set at a price of 7800 yen ($58) and will contain two discs--the game disc itself and a separate disc for the installation of the PlayOnline service.
