Monster Hunting Game Evolve Tops E3 Game Critics Awards Nominees

Turtle Rock's upcoming monster-fighting game leads the way with six nominations this year.

by

The nominations for the 2014 Game Critics Awards were announced today, and 2K Games' multiplayer-focused shooter Evolve led the way with six total nods. The game is in development at Turtle Rock Studios, the team that created the critically acclaimed Left 4 Dead series. In the game, four players fight together to take down a fifth player who plays the role of a supersized monster.

(Evolve is GameSpot's "Next Big Game." Be sure to check back every day this week at this special page for exclusive coverage of the game.)

Other games receiving multiple nominations include Destiny and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Siege with four apiece, while games netting three nominations were Alien: Isolation, Batman: Arkham Knight, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, and No Man's Sky.

The full list of categories and nominations is below. Nominations were voted on by a number of industry publications, including GameSpot, IGN, Kotaku, Polygon, Joystiq, the Associated Press, and USA Today. Winners will be announced July 1.

To be eligible for consideration, games needed to be playable. The Division, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt did not meet this requirement.

Wow, very surprise that the Witcher 3 did not get nominated as best RPG.  Even though I am not a fan of that series, a lot of people seems to be. I am still not sold on Shadow of Mordor and believe it may be one of the most disappointing games for the fans when it finally comes out.

I just have a good feeling about the Turtle Rock/2K combo because Turtle Rock made two of the best multiplayer games in Left 4 Dead and Counterstrike while 2K was behind great FPS's like Bioshock. Also, Evolve release date October 21st, 2014. IF you guys recall Bioshock released on October 21st too, coincidence - maybe?

But, I haven't been this excited for a game since Batman Arkham City came out

Instead of calling the game "Evolve" they should instead have called it "Online Boss Battles Only".

@gameroutlawzz I pretty much ignore these awards. Given that TitanFall got like 75 awards  after playing it I believe that the awards were paid for. I like the game have played it a lot. But for me I don't see how it has received 75 awards. I'm not criticizing the game I'm criticizing the critics and awards.  I see it happen in the movie industry and music industry. These awards are nothing more than paid promotions to the highest bidder.

@spacecadet25 Obbo.. doesent really have a good ring to it. i am with you on the praposal that there may be nowhere near asmuch content in this game as its price would depict tho 8).

@Hurvl I really hope that Nemesis system is even one quarter as cool as they claim, but almost every boast about advanced AI and branching outcomes and such ends up being BS :).

@shinjuki @aminodextrous I am amazed more and more everyday at how many people don't even take the time to read one or 2 paragraphs and then are confused at what the article is about.

Or, even scarier, they do read but don't understand.

@reBOOT2099 @shinjuki @aminodextrous I understand perfectly. And i amazed to see how many people don't realize why they're put "badge of excellence" on games  not even out for the public to play.

Or, even scarier, they don't give a sh*t.
