MLB The Show 17's Retro Mode Uses Basically Only One Button

Sony has shared some new information about MLB The Show 17's Retro mode, which is a slimmed-down, arcade-style version of the professional baseball game.

You use basically only one button, X, for everything, including pitching, batting, and fielding, according to this post on the PlayStation Blog. For pitching, you only aim side to side, not up or down for aiming.

Also, there are only three pitch-types, fastball, changeup, and slider. Velocity is controlled by holding down or up on the analog stick prior to throwing the ball and movement is controlled by pushing left or right after the pitch is released.

Sony didn't share any more details about Retro mode's gameplay, said that it will have "surprising depth," as well as "all the new animations, gameplay additions, and improvements found in the regular version of the game." More details on Retro mode will be announced on February 7 with a video blog and even more information is coming after that.

Sony also today revealed the cover stars for MLB The Show's Canadian and Taiwanese versions. Pitcher Aaron Sanchez of the Toronto Blue Jays is on the cover of the Canadian version, while Miami Marlins pitcher Wei-Yin Chen is on the cover for Taiwan. Retired MLB star Ken Griffey Jr. is on the cover everywhere else.

MLB The Show 17 launches for PlayStation 4 on March 28, which is just a few days before the 2017 season begins on April 2.

In September, Sony San Diego suffered layoffs, though the MLB team was unaffected.
