Minecraft Xbox 360 sells 7 million

Console version of open-ended sandbox game reaches new sales milestone.

The Xbox 360 version of Minecraft has now sold over 7 million copies, developer Mojang announced today over Twitter.

"Minecraft on Xbox has now sold 7 million copies!!! CRAZY! =D," business developer Daniel Kaplan said.

It is unclear if this figure is referencing the Xbox Live Arcade version, the disc-based retail version, or combined sales of both. Mojang was not immediately available to comment.

The XBLA version of Minecraft crossed 6 million units sold at the end of March, while the disc-based iteration released this month and broke retail records in the United States.

Meanwhile, the PC/Mac/Linux version of Minecraft recently crossed 11 million copies sold.

The best part is that they will discontinue any form of update for the 360 version in order to bring a superior version to the Xbox One. True Story

This is why console gaming is better than everything else. Gamers actually pays for their game.

Ok, Minecraft has sold a lot of copies. Next week they will have sold more, then the week after, and so on. You may cease writing about it.

I hope they upgrade the graphics. It looks like something from the 1990s!

I tried the demo and I just couldn't get into it. It's just a large time waster to me. I'd rather be playing other games with friends online.

Bought it for PC, made one house, spent 8 hours on it, had a moat and everything and then when I finished that had nooo interest in the game at all. Wasted £18, such a snoozefest after you get your head round everything.

I really don't get why this game is so HUGE... sure it has a very unique style but when I did play it on PC a couple of years ago it didn't appeal to me AT ALL... I got very bored very fast and I absolutely hated the graphics... just not for me.

wonder how many minecraft ps3 would sell

I'm going to say this politely as possible, if you bought this on a 360 you are not a wise person... PC has superior controls, just about any computer can run this game and, you have mods on PC with future updates.

I imagine Notch wipe his ass with one hundred dollar bills.

Indie development studios is the future, they don't have to obey by the man.

I can't fathom trying to play this on a console. Using a joystick seems cumbersome. Console resources are limited and the further you travel from your spawn point the more of those it hogs. And you can't possibly enjoy all the community mods that have been made for it over the years.

It was good in 2012 but they've spent the last 2 years doing nothing with it.

@DrKill09 Minecraft is fun and that's all that matters. Sometimes people want to take a break from the little screaming kids and so called "pros" in COD.

@02050muh

Just under 80 million worldwide. If you really think that less than 7 million people bought a 360, you're fucking retarded.

@bumpies Because some people (not including yourself) might be interested in how Minecraft sales are doing. Nobody forced you click the link. It's hardly any extra effort to scroll past the article.

@FrankFoxYaeger Is it really a great game? Never played it, the pixellated look coupled with the lego styled environmental objects is not at all appealing to me. But looks like whole internet is filled with people singing gaga of this game.

@Mr_BillGates But the article clearly says that the game has sold more on PC than consoles.

@commanderxp90

Sony is always late to the exclusivity deal with almost AAA PC developers and MS is smarter than Sony at the aspect.

@Gamerhomer You are sadly mistaken if you think you know all about Minecraft after 8 hours of play.

@vI_DigiTaL_Iv Well in reality Minecraft is more complicated on the PC. I understand where you're going with this though. Personally I don't configure controllers, I prefer the mouse and Keyboard. Also the resolution on my Monitor is superb, and I have no desire to stream it to my TV, given that TV's have a harder time rendering what monitors do.

But this is my opinion, and yours is your own. No need to rant about it.
Maybe you should try playing a game on the pc?

@ArabrockermanX But the ease or creating/connecting to a server with your friends on the 360 is superior. My 9 year old son plays both and prefers the 360 version. I've had to fiddle around with stuff after a few of the PC updates to the game and server and it gets frustrating.

malokevi

@Dirk_McHardpeck Plus, none of the fast-build stuff is available in creative mode. One brick at a time... can be more than a little bit tedious.

ChaoticLucidity

@ALCHEMISTx24x7 As of march this year, PS3 have sold 78.4 million units, 360 have sold 77.2 million. So even if 360 has sold 2.8 million more in the past 3 months, they are not 8 million ahead of ps3.

ChaoticLucidity

@SexyMiralda @FrankFoxYaeger Watch some videos on YouTube, however keep in mind the pc version is vastly different than the 360 due to the addition of mods and texture packs. It's not for everyone though, and I can understand why, but I was incredibly addicted to it for about 2 years or so...
