Minecraft Xbox 360 saves will carry over to Minecraft Xbox One Edition

Phil Spencer confirms you won't lose your favourite Xbox 360 Minecraft worlds if you buy the game again on Xbox One.

Following the info that Minecraft PS3 saves should be able to transfer to the PS4 version, Xbox boss Phil Spencer has said that Xbox 360 Minecraft saves will transfer over to Xbox One.

"After months of teaming up with Mojang," said Spencer on Twitter, "we can confirm that Minecraft X360 Edition will save transfer to Xbox One Edition...more news soon!"

Microsoft announced the Xbox One version of Minecraft back at E3 2013, promising increased world sizes over the Xbox 360 edition. The port being handled by Scottish outfit 4J Studios, who ported Mojang's ever-popular PC title to Xbox 360.

Spencer said at the end of March that the Minecraft Xbox One Edition was "really close," which is almost certainly a big deal for the publisher as the Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition has now sold over 12 million copies.

Minecraft is expected to hit PlayStation 4 and Vita before September.

im probably in the minority here but since i have it on the 360, i shouldnt pay for it on the one! (if i had one of course) when you upgrade your pc you keep your steam games....

not bought a next gen console yet. Tbh, i wouldve bought whichever one was backwards compatible, i have a collection of arcade and psn games that i want to keep with me (banjo kazooie, final fantasys, minecraft!)

Only reason I bought an xbox one was for the upgraded minecraft.  Did anyone see if they mentioned it running in 1080p?

THAT would be good news. Even though I am not a Minecraft player, the ability to use a game save across platforms in the Microsoft EcoSystem is a huge step for Xbox gamers and could lead to future games doing this as well.

If you already own it for 360 you should be able to get it on X1 for a discounted price. Otherwise you can piss off gaming industry.

Probably the first tweet Spencer has made that is actually newsworthy for a change.. Haha!

Good to know both platforms will offer progress transfers anyway. Looking forward to release on next-gen :)

@sladakrobot Its not a matter of cant. Its a matter of wont. Its ridiculous for people to pay for the same game twice. This sort of practice will become more and more common the more people keep handing over their money for slightly better looking versions of a game. The publishers are just taking advantage of the customers open wallets.

@sladakrobot There is no reason why the current version cant use the cloud. Titanfall on 360 uses the cloud.

@StHapns247 If you're on about video hardware of course I've upgraded. Technology moves on. But I've never upgraded any of my movie/tv library. Principles. Its just a way for publishers to make an easy buck. And besides the only advantage of the X1 version of Minecraft will be larger worlds.

@dribblesbarbax Its not the same game. While the princip is the same, many new things will come and i believe the X1 version will support the cloud.

@dribblesbarbax @sladakrobot  Did you upgrade from DVD to Blu-ray for free or VHS to DVD for free?

If a new superior version comes out you pay for it or you stick with the version you have, simple.
