The Wii U GamePad is used for inventory management in a number of games, but the recently confirmed version of Minecraft for Wii U won't be one of them.

Responding to questions on Twitter, Mojang developer Owen Hill said such a feature "would be cool," but it's not supported, at least not yet.

"Not at the moment, sorry," Hill explained. "It's just used as an alternate screen if someone is using the TV. Would be cool though."

Mojang and Nintendo have promised regular updates for Minecraft on Wii U in the future, so it's possible GamePad inventory management will happen someday. This is not confirmed, however.

Minecraft for Wii U launches on December 17 through the eShop. There are six DLC packs included in the game, while more than a dozen others will be available to buy.

Minecraft is already available on consoles like the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 3. A PlayStation Vita version is also available, though there is no word on a 3DS iteration. Outside of traditional gaming platforms, there are versions of Minecraft available for smartphones and tablets, among other devices.
