Minecraft PS3, Xbox 360 versions getting major update

Finally, you’ll be able to ride pigs.

by

The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Minecraft will soon be updated with a long list of changes and additions that are already available in the PC version, the developer behind the console ports of the game 4J Studios has announced.

4J Studios has submitted Title Update 14 for testing with both Microsoft and Sony. When it’s released, players will notice a huge amount of new items, including new blocks, potions, and special items like carrot on a stick, which allows you to ride animals for faster travel.

Other big additions include the ability to trade with villagers, new terrain generation features (Desert Temples, Desert Villages, and Jungle Temples), a new Anvil Interface, and much more. You can find the full list of changes on the Minecraft Forums.

We recently learned that Swedish developer Mojang, creators Minecraft, made a whopping revenue of 2.07 billion Swedish krona (approximately $326m/£196m) last year, up from 816 million in 2012.

It's about time that we finally get a much needed content update, A very long over due one in my opinion. At least now it brings some much needed variety into the game. Still, I think it needs a lot more than this to get me real interested in it again (FYI - put over 200 hours into it).

People over the age of 13 still care about Minecraft?

I think Minecraft is getting too complicated.  It takes real creativity to build a meaningful world with just green blocks of one size.  Graphics don't matter.  Color doesn't matter.  Once you start giving Minecraft more tools and objects, then it is over.

My Xbox 360 is broken (my third) and I am waiting for the XBOX ONE version. My daughter loves Minecraft and for now we are playing on the iPad, but it is not the same. Can we have a release date.....please.

Fix the lag! I have really good Internet, my friends have really good Internet, and despite all of that, I still have not been in an online game where the players (other than the host) have not been stuck waiting every 10-20 steps for the world to load. I couldn't care less about an update on a game that is unplayable with friends.

Wow even with this update its still what, 2 years behind the PC version? Pretty sure all this stuff came out on the PC version at least 2 years ago.

This is great, but I want to X1 version. This is the only game right now I still fire my 360 up for.

I hope when it does come out for X1 and PS4 it is the currently updated 360/PS3 versions, so we don't have to wait for incremental updates like this.

How about an update that adds a point or graphics that aren't pixel barf?

Get a ps3, it's cheaper than x1 free online and more reliable than x360 problem solved

@deadpen  Why bother posting this? Do you live such a pathetic life you think you need to crap on a game to make yourself feel cool? Guess what, you're just as big a idiot as the rest of the CoD hating dudebros of the internet.

@pelvist Yeah it is, I own both versions and it's painful to play the 360 one. I slammed all my buttons to figure out how to spring before finally going online to discover that you can't sprint. o-O

@pelvist  Still takes a fairly graphically capable PC to be able to run Minecraft with maxed out graphics.

Console version is a good deal for some. Not to mention almost 1/3 cheaper

@StHapns247  When the Xbox One Edition comes out, it will be at the Title Update #14 (one being released soon). Also Mojang also said on twitter several days ago that when this update is finished, it will have everyone working on the PS4 and Xbox One versions. Probably hinting the Xbox One version coming first since they can just take the 360 port and update it.

@DrKill09  You are someone who has never played the game. There actually is a point to the game but you're probably just too stupid to know what it is. Google is your friend.

@DrKill09  there is a point, its very simple....you dont know how to play minecraft?

NEORaven667

@Clovergirl227 That's very odd you can't sprint. On PS3 it's double tapping the left analog stick forward. I'm surprised X-box doesn't have that, but then again we are talking x-box here

@HowlPendragon Eh console Minecraft is $20. PC minecraft is $20. I have a crappy laptop ontop of a gaming PC and both plays minecraft perfectly fine, even better than my 360 copy which lags to hell online..

pelvist
pelvist

@HowlPendragon  You dont have much of a point there since the console version cant do the PCs maxed out version, its stuck with low>medium. A PC from the last 10 years can handle the game at low>medium and I as well as many others payed £6 or less for the PC version of Minecraft 4 years ago.

Nowhere did I say anything that would warrant defensive argument about owning the console version. I was surprised at how far behind this "new stuff" is for the console version, that is all.

@night_drifter05  . . . you do realise i was on about the Minecraft Skyrim DLC. as this is a minecraft discussion. the xbox360 had the mass effect, skyrim and city DLC "FOR MINECRAFT" last year but it hasnt been released on PS3 yet - - let alone for ps4 - - (as their is no minecraft on ps4 yet but it would be nice if the skyrim DLC came to ps4 as well)  hope that explains my post for you.

steve_esquire

I have never understood this argument. Just because a game is good doesn't mean that you can't stop playing it to go online lmao. I have hundreds upon hundreds of games and among them are games that I have played 20 times over because they're so good. This doesn't mean that I spend my entire life playing them! That's essentially like me saying every CoD player on the internet is admitting that CoD sucks because they aren't playing it 24/7. Worst comeback/argument in the world...

@night_drifter05 @pelvistU cant Compare the development of the pc game vs console

The Console has it easy, as they're mainly just taking content/updates from the pc version whilst the pc started from scratch.

So really the consoles are slow to develop, espically considering they have the foundation of the game handed to them, yet it takes them ages to make and then they have to get it verified on top of that.

Add the fact that pc version is constantly getting new content  leaving the console version further behind and pile on top of that the long list of mods available.

Btw u can make Minecraft run better by using a mod called optifine

As for Visuals i could run minecraft easily on a 2-3 year old £300 laptop or my old pc (atleast 5 years) both using integrated graphics  i could still get low/medium setting and decent framerate

Mincraft on console isnt maxed out, far from it. If u want a maxed out Minecraft then yes it will cost but the visuals with the aid of some the shaders mods is truly amazing

Consoles do have the advantage of always running at a steady-ish framerate

@night_drifter05 @pelvist  Calls me a PC fanboy with a reponse like that!

...Its still 2 years behind the PC version no matter how much you try to sugar coat it. Now go hug your XBOX.

randomkidlol
randomkidlol

@pelvist  The console versions of the game ported the code from java to c#. That in itself improved performance significantly.

night_drifter05
night_drifter05

@pelvist  Defensive much? His point is pretty valid, you're just too much of a PC fanboy to probably admit it based on your post. I know my older laptop can barely handle the game and lag's extremely bad on low/medium in populated areas and it's about as powerful as a PS3/360. Also, the PS3 and 360 version's haven't been out ANYWHERE near as long. They have just recently started getting all the support and they are phasing it in little by little JUST LIKE they did the PC version. If you really compare the console version to the PC version, the console is actually WAY WAY ahead of schedule compared to PC. It took the PC version nearly 3 1/2 to 4 years to be where the PS3 version currently is after only 3 1/2 months. The console version will be caught up to the PC version in no time.

I don't know what's funnier. People still at war with each other over what console is better or the fact that you think minecraft is graphically taxing.
