Minecraft coming to PS3 this week, still no release date for PS4 version

Regarding Remote Play, Mojang says, "We don't know yet, sorry."

by

Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition will launch in the PlayStation Store beginning this Tuesday, December 17, Mojang has announced on the PlayStation Blog.

Versions of the game for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita are also in development, but release dates for those iterations have not been announced.

"Expect more news in the New Year," Mojang said.

Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition features everything found in the Xbox 360 version. "They're pretty much identical to play and will be developed in tandem from now on," Mojang said.

Downloadable skins and texture packs will be available for purchase from the PlayStation Store "soon" after the game launches this week for PS3. Mojang said Sony-specific skins and texture packs "would be cool," but did not confirm any are in development.

Regarding Remote Play support between the console and portable versions, Mojang said, "We don't know yet, sorry."

The PlayStation versions of Minecraft have large shoes to fill. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition passed 10 million in lifetime sales last week. The game has now sold more than 10 million copies on three different platforms: PC, Xbox 360, and mobile.

Boy, I wish I had created this game.  All I had to do was take the original Doom engine then make it uglier and add a level editor and voila Minecraft.

Are people really clamoring for more ports of the watered down version of Minecraft?

17th is tomorrow........not next week. Do you guys just hire a bunch of retards who don't know how to write headlines properly?

Personally i hope this bombs on the PS3. Not because i hate Minecraft, but because i hate companies that think they can have their cake and eat it to. Mohang signed an exclusivity deal with Microsoft to keep Minecraft off of Playstation devices for a period of time and and are now expecting to reap the rewards from its sale on the PS3 as well as keep the fat check they got from Microsoft. This is simple greed. Video game companies won't stop making consumer unfriendly deals like this until they realize it's more financially beneficial if they release their games on all consoles at once

Great news! Hope it comes to the new consoles soon.

Its exactly the same as the 360 version. Some hiccups and few design changes. They re encoded using a code converter. Team testing it have been hammering it for weeks, hopefully multiplayer has been repaired and streaming works flawlessly now.

I never figured out what was so special about this game

I read "available for purchase" in this article but I don't see a thousand comments below whining about microtransactions. Am I dreaming?

PS3 owners are getting an amazing game so I hope it sells a lot; deserves it every bit.

And Nintendo fails again on getting 3rd party games on the Wii U.

What would be the point of remote play, since they're releasing a Vita version? Just support cross-buy and play the Vita version instead

I always forgot about those poor PS3 players

Though I completely understand targeting the massive install base of the 360 and PS3 first... I wish they'd port it to the Wii U.

It just seems like too good of a fit to NOT happen, which of course means it probably never will. :-/

And the PS4 version?? I'm waiting for it.

I don't think the ps3 version will surpass 10 million sales.or the vita version.or the PS4 version for that matter..

@catsimboy Yes, yes they are.  Just not me.  PC is the best way to go if you want the best Minecraft experience

"Mohang signed an exclusivity deal with Microsoft to keep Minecraft off of Playstation devices for a period of time"

That period of time has ended. Stop crying like a baby. Were you bitching at Rockstar and other Game Companies when their timed games or DLC ended up on a PC/PS3 after their exclusive time ran out with Microsoft? Probably not.

Quit bitching or go to Video Game School and learn how to create your own games and change the Industry if you are that unhappy....or...or...OR......just stop playing games altogether? Because this is the future of how Video Games will work. So...get use to it or stop playing altogether. Those are your two choices.

@Slim_LyricsIf you have cake, but can not eat it, then what is the point of even having that cake? If you have cake, EAT IT!

@Slim_Lyrics I have amended this sentence to make it clear that Minecraft has now sold 10 million copies across 3 *different* platforms. Thanks.

@nchakall Yes but remember the game is still not fully "complete". They are still arranging patches still

@randomkidlolThe 360 version was a total rewrite from scratch in C#, which is why it doesn't get simultaneous updates with or identical features to the PC build. The PS3 version will be a fork of the same console-specific codebase.

@juboner I agree it's not for everyone, but the game is almost therapeutic in how it hearkens back to your younger years by letting you be creative. It's like a big toy box with the best toys buried beneath. There's exploration, free-roaming gameplay, great music and an overall calming mood felt when you play. Maybe it's because I work 50-60 hours a week, but spending a few hours getting lost in your own world is a lot of fun. For me at least.

@Stevo_the_gamer

Amazing? No.  Good? Maybe. But Amazing? No. Especially if they are doing microtransactions of shit you get for free on the PC Version.

More like poor console players. I mean, it sounds PC elitist, but seriously the world is so much smaller and there is less content on the console ports.

Hopefully the Xbone and PS4 get a more complete version as they have the power to run the game properly.

@thekingofironyNever the less, expect weekly articles about it from Mackuch. I can see the headlines already "PS3 Minecraft Not Sold 1 Million Yet, Notch Having Bacon For Dinner"

@halo44327 more than likely, but its minecraft so most bugs that get found are waived ir devs are made accountable.

Still its pretty good, worlds are small though which is the only downer i can see.

@Furwings @frylock1987 @Shango4 Nintendo seems to be doing well enough to not give a fuck. But if they're going to release Minecraft on PS3, PS4,and PS Vita, might as well release a Wii, Wii U, and 3DS version too eh?

More platforms equals more money right? Because that's all that matters in the video game industry it seems. I wonder how many more indie devs will follow the same path Mojang did.
