MineCon tickets on sale now

Individual entry to Las Vegas Minecraft convention priced at $99 until September 30, $140 thereafter; keynote speeches, costume contests, breakout classes, and more promised.

by

Last week, Markus "Notch" Persson announced that his indie game Minecraft would join the likes of BlizzCon and Call of Duty: XP and offer fans a themed convention called MineCon. At the time, he didn't offer many details about the event, but now ticketing information and more is available.

MineCon arrives in Vegas this November.

Tickets for MineCon--which will be held in Las Vegas from November 18-19--are currently available at the convention's website. Gamers can purchase tickets to the two-day event at $99 each until September 30, and for $139 thereafter. No one under the age of 16 can attend MineCon without an adult.

Additionally, the first 500 to register for the event will be entered to win the "Ultimate Fan Experience," which includes hotel for three nights, VIP seating for keynote speeches and classes, and a meal with Minecraft developer Mojang.

As for the event itself, MineCon will offer keynote speeches, including one from Minecraft creator Notch. Additionally, those who travel to Las Vegas for the convention will be able to attend build contests, breakout classes concerning various Minecraft topics, and costume contests. Fore more on MineCon, head to the event's website.

@FoeCrusher I'll bet if there were they'd be wearing costumes made of cardboard boxes.

This is actually more of a launch party for obsessives who want every scrap of minecraft info the second it comes out. You should see how obsessed people got over Notch's twitpic of a HAT.

Will there be Minecraft babes at the show?

I think the world has come to it's end! With the way the economy is right now why would anyone pay $100-$140 dollars (assuming you live in Vegas) to go to this? Not to mention how greedy the developer must be to charge that price....WOW

What the heck....what will I get for $99? I bet most fans would rather spend that money on Minecraft merchandise or a Minecraft cosplay costume.

I can't figure out why everyone hasta have a "_____Con" now. I remember when people made stuff, we bought it...and then people made more stuff that we bought, sometimes related to the first stuff. Now it's like every month there's another show or con or something.

i agree, a convention for minecraft is cool but overpriced and unnecesarry.

Sounds like they're getting way ahead of themselves with this. It's probably a better idea to wait for your franchise to expand a little more before doing stuff like this (and how about actually finish the game?). I mean, how many people are really going to attend? Seems like a gamble to me.

MineCon? lmfaooo Don't get me wrong, I love Minecraft, it's addicting as hell, but really? A convention for Minecraft? And at $100 a ticket? Really now?

@Jaga_Telesin I think this is what it looks like when an indie developer crosses the line.

Just realized that this will be when the game officially releases as well so it looks like it will be more of a launch party and they'll have new features to discuss.

@Jaga_Telesin yay, I agree, this really takes the spirit of Indie game out...

While I'm a Minecraft fan (nut) myself, I don't really see the purpose of this convention. A small-ish indie game, a $100 ticket.. it seems more like a marketing thing for Notch than anything else.

Wow, that was a really good Minecraft introductory video! But $99 for a two-day convention seems a little too much for a first time convention just starting out...But who knows? It could really sell because Minecraft is such a hugely popular game!! :D

Show off your maps, share build ideas, join in on a convention-only server and do a massive LAN-build. Meet Minecraft celebs like maybe Seananners or the Yogs boys. Its not exactly Bliz-con, but I bet it would be fun.

A conference just about Minecraft? What are they going to talk about?! "well we're adding a new sword into the gaem is purple but does moar dmagae than diamond but breaks fastur." FOR HOURS I love minecraft but, really... I am unsure.

Ah, I'm an idiot. Totally misread that, totally glazed over the "entered to win" part.

Why would anyone pay $100 for a ticket to a convention dedicated to MINECRAFT?

@Richardthe3rd If you are one of the first 500 to register for MineCon you will be entered into a drawing to potentially win the Ultimate Fan Experience. A $99 ticket gets you into the two-day show and its events.

All 13 people who go will win the ultimate fan experience.

@Richardthe3rd thats only if you win the "ultimate fan experience" contest

Wait wait wait... "includes hotel for three nights" for $99? Is this for real? If so, I might consider it, and I don't even play Minecraft...

I'm not really a con person, but it's amazing that Minecraft has gotten its own convention in such a short period of time. Must be more popular than I thought.
