Midway Games has today revealed that development is well under way on a previously unannounced stealth-based action game called ESPionage. As the title suggests, players will be able to employ psychic abilities as well as traditional weapons and stealth techniques as they assume the role of an elite American psi operative named Nick Geller.

"Never before have players been given the ability to use psi mind powers in an action stealth game," said Helene Sheeler, vice president of marketing at Midway. "ESPionage provides a highly entertaining experience that opens up unique and creative combinations of the way gamers can play the game."

As Nick Geller, players will be charged with infiltrating the compounds of a powerful psychic terrorist organization known as The Movement. Psychic powers at the player's disposal will include telekinesis, pyrokinesis, mind control, remote viewing, mind drain, and aura view. In addition, Geller will be armed with traditional handguns, automatic weaponry, and the like.

ESPionage will feature a total of seven levels, set within four distinct compounds in different areas of the world. According to Midway, the levels will be nonlinear in design with so many different ways of succeeding that they'll offer almost endless replay value. Midway also promises that the enemies in the game will feature very realistic adaptive AI, meaning that they'll be fully aware of the player's actions.

All three versions of ESPionage are currently scheduled for release toward the end of this year. We'll bring you more information on the game as soon as it becomes available.
