Microsoft's Phil Spencer to deliver keynote speech at Gamescom 2013

Spencer to deliver a talk at German trade show; "There has never been a better time to be a part of this industry," he says.

Microsoft Studios boss Phil Spencer will deliver an opening keynote at European trade show Gamescom 2013, the show's organisers have announced.

"This industry is at a turning point. Gamescom is the ideal platform to study the influence of new hardware" said Spencer in a statement (translated by GameSpot from German).

"There has never been a better time to be a part of this industry. It is exciting to see how developers will use new opportunities to create completely new ways of gaming," he added.

Microsoft chose to skip the German trade show in 2012, but is returning to the event for 2013.

Last week Spencer said he was going to "bite his tongue" regarding news of a Crackdown 3.

No further details were released for Spencer's keynote. Gamescom this year runs from August 21 through August 25.

Well given how well MS have been doing the past 12 months, I can understand why the industry would be hanging out to hear all about it. /sarcasm off

Seriously, the only reason you would even listen is to get some tips on what NOT to do in your own company.

Did MS say they are going to announce new games at Gamescom? Sony said that they are going to show new exclusives so MS has to do it too right? Or is their conference just going to be a rehash of E3, can anybody help me out here, did I miss any comment from MS about this?

@denhoffi  Neither do I. But I do believe MS will focus on indie games and kinect games this time on Gamescom...and...from my source...there will be an unannounced new title to be revealed...:p

@NecrusherThey better show indies some love because Sony is kicking their butts in that department right now, and I have a feeling that Sony has still more to show than MS. At the moment the PS4 is way ahead of the Xbox One which is sad because I want them both to do good...

That photo makes Spencer look like he's trying to do a racist impression of an Asian man.

I love the X1 and have already paid mine off. But this guy just rubs me the wrong way. I bet when he gets home from work and wants to relax, he goes and sits on his plunger for a few hours.

This sounds so artificial, cant come up with your own words instead of watching prompters?

If Sony shows some really good footage of their PS4 exclusives in the upcoming Gamescom then that should be enough to cement MS's fate in the next-gen race.

I would be very interested to know how Steve Ballmer's restructuring of M$ has affected how they look at their plans for the near future, but I doubt they'll delve into that.

Great quotes if you haven't heard them before ... listening to MS is like listening to a bunch of toddlers just shaking their rattles.

Here's a preview: Hey guys? Man did we f--- up at E3? That was funny huh?  But now we got rid of our horrid DRM and letting Indies self publish. See we're being nice again now that Don Matrick left us for Zynga.  Look we have more Killer Instinct footage.  Please like us again. PLEEEAASSSEE!!??

@SirSlimyScrotum As much as pro Sony I am, some people don't want to keep two time zones all the time in their mind, and don't want to accidentally call their family across the big ocean at the middle of the night. Nothing wrong with that.
