Microsoft: Xbox One controller $60, headset $25

[UPDATE] Microsoft confirms all prices.

[UPDATE] Following the publication of this story, a Microsoft representative confirmed that all Xbox One accessory pricing information through the Microsoft Store is correct.

"Yes, official pricing for Xbox One accessories at Microsoft Stores is accurate," the representative said.

The original story is below.

The official Microsoft Store has been updated with pricing information for a range of Xbox One accessories, revealing extra controllers will go for $60 and additional headsets for $25.

An Xbox One wireless controller with play-and-charge kit will sell for $75, while the play-and-charge kit alone will go for $25.

It is not clear if the Xbox One accessory pricing information is final. GameSpot has reached out to Microsoft for comment.

All Xbox One units include one wireless controller, though the system will not come bundled with a pack-in headset. Players can still use voice commands out of the box, though, thanks to the Kinect.

Competitor Sony will offer extra DualShock 4 controllers and PlayStation Eye units for the PlayStation 4 at $60 each. The Xbox One ($500) and PS4 ($400) launch later this year.

I just don't see how a $499.00 console doesn't come packaged with a real headset.  If people actually believe that the Kinect is going to act as a type of headset of preference, they are sorely mistaken. Its already been said (and arguably proven) by some gaming insiders that the Kinect 2 picks up massive background noise and has a terrible echo. Granted, its said to have built in options to offset all this, but insiders claim once you turn down the background noise option, your voice becomes severely muffled to players on the other end.  Personally, I like wearing a Turtle Beach type headset as to not disturb others while getting a much more immersive experience.

Nevertheless, I'm not looking forward to the drones of folks who will be using their Kinects to act as headsets while playing games like Call Of Duty. And unless Microsoft throws in a headset, I can assure you that this will effect us all, especially in the early goings -at least until folks can afford to upgrade. I just feel that its disturbingly cheap of MS not to bundle in an actual headset. This whole Kinect issue is going to cause more and more gamers to mute their headsets during a team deathmatch session. Its bad enough paying $499.99 because of the force-fed bundled in Kinect, but now Microsoft  is actually expecting folks to use this as a headset as well.

Man, sooo many hypocrites on here...

At first they yell at MS for not giving the consumer a choice over Kinect or no Kinect, then they go and yell that there should be no battery choice and it should be internal -_-

Being a Illegal Mexican Immigrant I can afford this with my Pesos X-box Juan FTW!

I like Americano X-box

I highly doubt that given that they want you to use Kinect for chatting. So $615 for those who use separate rechargeables.

I'm going to be muting a lot of 8 year olds using Kinect mics, that can't spring for a headset.  Anyway, I bet Plantronics will make a better one for $11 on Amazon.

ahahahahahaha you drones complaining about MS using "old" tech in their controllers are such fools. How do your rationalize your argument when you:

rip on them for trying to go all digital. You screamed about how you wanted to still game using discs, which have been around for over 15 years now.

 rip them for trying to get the kinect into every home. It will add to the gaming experience aside from motion controls.

 rip on them for adding more features to the system that are not game related.

 Somehow they are dumb, but sony putting a feature in the DS that won't be used by more than a third of you, is just swell.

@angryguy77

1. Discs have been around for a while yes, but you can not compare a CD/DVD Disc to a Blu ray which are being used now.

2. How exactly will kinect add to the gaming experience unless you are a 12-/+ year old with to much energy.

3. Adding features to a GAMING CONSOLE which are not game related...

I enjoyed X360 and PS3, but Microsoft fucked up with this one.

@Haze204

1. How so? Music has moved away from physical media(and how funny Sony tried to extend control over that: See rootkit). Blu ray is at the end, a disc. The digital age has rendered them obsolete. Although they are still a viable medium, there is a better, more cost effective way to play games.

2. You clearly are being obtuse or you never looked or thought about the possibilities. The info is out there if you care. I'd suggest you look into how it's going to be used in DR3 and others. Saying people would have to a kid to enjoy it is a myopic way of thinking. It has more to offer games than just motion. The device allows for some real creative things.

3-Regardless, they are nice additions that won't take away from the gaming experience. If you have a console that is about games and lets you do so much more, that's a bonus, not a take away.

Seeing they sold out, they didn't screw up as terrible as you imply.

 I see a decision for a lot of you in the future. DRM and digital libraries are coming. You can't have digital without drm. Developers would love to cut out the middle man and sell directly to the gamer. Gamers could see steam-like prices(that remains to be seen I admit).

 Sony has a patent on the tech for gaming, and they want to do it to movies as well. Many of you are going to have to admit you were wrong for accusing MS was evil for trying to push us into the digital age, or stick to your guns and get out of gaming altogether

@angryguy77 Music and gaming are two totally different mediums. I have nearly 9000 songs in AAC format and they take up 23 GB on my laptop. Games with only 720p formats start at 7 GB. Full HD movies are 20-30 GB (downloadable HD movies say they're HD, but H264 at and a lower compression rate is imitation HD).

Developers that make games across multiple platforms don't go 1080p because you'd be talking about multiple discs on the 360. And if I'm paying $60+ for a game, I expect quality. I like games that look good, and until downloadable games won't have that quality because they'll have to compress the codecs and bit rates just to make the download reasonable. I speak for a lot of people and a for the film and many in the gaming industires when I say I prefer full quality HD, not 720p or H264 and other compressed codecs.

The digital age has yet to make Blu Ray obsolete simply because it can't match the quality.

Will it be compatible with the PC like the wired Xbox 360 gamepads ? If yes maybe I will consider getting one !

So... pretty much the same as last generation controllers? Is it just me, or has Eddie not posted anything that remotely counts as news in months now?

@Haeravon NOpe you're right....Ole Munster Jr. can't put a decent "news" article together in months....or ever...

though he's not as bad as Martin Gaston..that's a real waste...

Why is the controller considered as news? It's been sitting on amazon for more than a month at $60.

tzhu07

@sumoman23 It's been on Amazon for a while, however the $60 price was just speculation by Amazon. This is news because Microsoft now confirms the speculated price.

i cant complain here, ill pay at least that much for a good wired mouse or wired keyboard. I cant stand batteries.

I'll stick to PC thanks. Play n' Charge never worked properly for more than a month on the 360.

@Tristan2668 That's why you need a PS4. Charge the DuakShock 10-15 minutes, even while playing, go on for at least a couple of hours! And the batteries live forever.

Friggin controller for the price of a GAME ($60)? Gameconsoles are going to crash at this pace in next gen..

phillharvey
phillharvey

@quakke this gen was priced at $60 for the controllers the whole time and the industry is still strong. Sorry the break it to you but the next gen will not crash

quakke
quakke

@phillharvey @quakke

Controllers this gen were priced @ $60? Well then it seriously needs to change because that is just madness.

Well if they keep controllers at at $60 and consoles at 400-$700 it definitely is going downhill. Pure greed. That is the reason why videogame industry crashed in the first place back in the 80's.

At this pace we are going to have a another crash, because greed equals lower quality due to interest/focus in wrong areas (amount of sales), when it should be in amount of gameplay quality like in the 90's.

am i like one of the few people who thinks the xbox controller is just making it harder to reach the d-pad. i looks like it does and the 360 felt a bit bad too.
