Microsoft announced today that it has picked up Sega's OutRun2 and will be releasing the game in North America for the Xbox this October. OutRun2 is the sequel to Sega's classic arcade racer OutRun, originally released in 1986.

In the new game, players can race eight different officially licensed Ferraris through an international assortment of tracks. The game will include a classic arcade racing mode as well as a mission-oriented mode. It also has Xbox Live support for up to eight players in head-to-head play, and players can download the best runs and ghost race against them to improve their skills.

Like its predecessor, OutRun2 was originally released as an arcade game. Sega initially snubbed Microsoft, saying that it would not port the game to the Xbox, but several months later confirmed a European Xbox release.
