Microsoft-exclusive white Xbox One hits eBay for charity

[UPDATE] Console sells for £5,000.

[UPDATE] Following the publication of this story, the auction ended. Due to suspicious bidding, the auction was canceled and the white Xbox One was sold as a Buy It Now item. It went for £5,000 ($~8,000)

The original story is below.

As it turns out, being part of the Xbox launch team isn't the only way to score a special white Xbox One.

Microsoft provided United Kingdom-based charity GamesAid with the commemorative Xbox One console and the group is now auctioning it off on eBay. The current asking price is £16,300, or about $26,200. The auction is open to serious bidders only, who are asked to contact GamesAid prior to participating in the auction process.

The special white Xbox One features a matching white controller, as well as the inscription "I Made This" at the right of the disc tray. Also included with the system are exclusive Day One and Launch Team achievements.

GamesAid is a video games-focused charity that acts as an umbrella to support various charities who help disadvantaged and disabled children and young people.

The GamesAid white Xbox One system will ship on November 22, the same day the next-generation console goes on sale publicly across 13 territories.

That design looks ugly in white. All the modern angular designs were made to be in black.

Well, everything in my living room is black, so that thing would stand out like a sore thumb. Looks nice though.

Would have been more interesting if they shipped it the day after the auction. I mean... he paid enough. Does anyone spite the guy a few weeks of early play when he's paid $8000 for charity?

"Due to suspicious bidding, the auction was canceled and the white Xbox One was sold as a Buy It Now item." lol i bet a lot of people just made an account so they can troll the heck of the auction.

Someone who has money to burn gets something to brag about while a good-cause gets £5,000. Mazel tov to everyone.

I'd like to know what is meant by suspicious bidding. Anyone trying to con a charity should burn. £16,000 sounds like a helluva lot for a console, but if someone was willing to pay it then it's a shame they've missed out.

The X360 looked pretty bad in white, they released a better looking version in black. The X1 looks bad in black, they release an exclusive white version...aw yeah. Good thing, though. 5k for charity is always nice.

I saw people giving more on Humble Bundle.

And the reason this isn't widely available is because black gathers dust better.

Microsoft sure are going all out when it comes to dust-collecting this gen.

It's great some support charities what a embarrassed and stupid way  to support charities. No one on GameSpot will buy that console for $5,000. You see how some companies like EA and Warner EB have done charities events M$? Pretty sure that's how you support charity...a way where many of us were able to participate.

Just like with 50% of all other consoles pre-ordered out there this one will be resold too at launch or around launch.

I would write "peice of sh*t" in permanent marker after the "I made this" inscription.  Then re-sale it.

@xsonicchaos Mostly because Humble is independent and people hate Microsoft so much, for no reason, that they wouldn't even donate to charity. It's called being a worthless asshole. Welcome to the world.

@Bellum_Sacrum Color has nothing to do with gathering dust. Now, black will SHOW dust better, but it has so magical static pull on dust particles over white.

@zzamaro Agreed, though 5k remains 5k to charity. Nothing stops you from going to the website of whatever charity you want to support and give. You shouldn't need an exclusive event as an excuse to give...

@Grenadeh @frylock1987

He brought it for himself. Otherwise if he wasn't, why didn't he just give them $5000? Ohhh thats right....because he is getting something in return.

OmegaGear
OmegaGear

@Grenadeh Well, this was GamesAID, not MS. It just features an item donated by MS for this particular fund raiser. Also, with Humblebundle, there's multiple charities with different focuses people can donate to, and often times, people have specific causes they want to support.

Cochleadoc

@frylock1987 @Grenadeh Breaking News: It's possible to do a good deed and get something beneficial in return.  Thus, tax write off to charitable donations.  Stop complaining on the internet just to complain.
