Microsoft announces Xbox Live Australia Day deals

Deals exclusive to Australian gamers who connect to Xbox Live will be available over the Australia Day long weekend; offers include free Xbox Live Gold membership access and more.

Aussie Xbox 360 owners will have a chance to access some exclusive offers on Xbox Live this Australia Day long weekend. Special deals include free Xbox Live Gold access, Foxtel access, discounted movies and other offers.

From January 25 at 5 p.m. (AEDST) to January 29 at 7 a.m., Australians connecting to Xbox Live will have the opportunity to try the Xbox Live Gold service for free. This includes access to multiplayer gaming and video chat. Gold subscribers who sign up for Foxtel as a new user are also eligible to receive one month of Live TV/Catch Up for free.

In addition to these deals, a range of discounts will be applied to Australian movies, and films starring Australian actors. Accessed through Xbox Movies, titles include the likes of Robin Hood, A Knight's Tale, Bra Boys, and more.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II players will also be able to earn double XP for the duration of the Australia Day long weekend. The multiplayer bonus will start from 5 a.m. (AEDST) January 26 and run for 72 hours.

Currently, an Xbox Live gold membership can retail between A$80-A$89 for a 12-month subscription. The subscription grants access to multiplayer gameplay, Netflix movie-streaming services, free game demos, and discounts exclusive to Xbox Live gold subscribers.

Xbox Live should always be for free to play multilayer games online!

We pay big bucks to buy the game!

About time I trash my Xbox 360  and buy a PlayStation 3 like many other have now because of this

Sony PlayStation uses don't have to pay! really sucks

Typical multi trillion-air  money making Microsoft offering scummy offers!

How about For once int heir life Microsoft make online game play free like Sony PlayStation 3 uses? I don't really think they will be loosing any money!

That's pretty cool that they're doing something to coincide with Australia Day/Long Weekend. I mean I would prefer going outside and doing things with my buddies, but still it should appeal to some people.

@dorian63 Pretty uninformed comment, tho I understand your frustration as I did feel the same way initially, ive come to realise that the service is alot better then psn. I have both consoles and will now glady fork out the extra money to have more dedicated servers, less lag, more content, exclusive content, foxtel, apps, great social networking and a ton of customization for my avatar.

@aus_pride @dorian63 your comment has a lot of mis-information as well
- Live doesn't have more dedicated servers than PSN
- PSN doesn't lag more than Live
- you have to pay 2 separate subscriptions to access foxtel on Live and you need gold to stream TV on demand (or watch youtube)
- PSN offers free TV on demand channels
- glad you enjoy paying for digital items to accessorize a digital person that does nothing
- PS3 games generally have been getting more exclusive content lately for Multi-plat games than Xbox
- paying for PS+ gives access to better discounts and lots of great free games and for online play it is completely optional

only part that Live does better than PSN is cross-game chat and parties, and if you really want cross game chat for PSN there are numerous PC/Android/IOS options which are free and easy to setup (granted, they are not as convenient)

@aus_pride @dorian63 You see i have a disability. I do not work and cant not afford to buy and then pay for Xbox live subscriptions.

I don't use fox-tel, social networking as that is not my interest.

My only interest is playing the game online multiply. of the game I have purchased.

Then maybe Microsoft should make the online multiplay gaming part of Xbox live 100%% free and if you want the other options then you pay.

Anyway I hope they do something about this one day!
