MGS: Portable Ops held up in UK

'Problem with packaging' means the title gets delayed across the Atlantic once again.

Solid Snake has hit another snag on his way to the UK in his latest title--Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops for the PlayStation Portable. Originally due for release in Europe in April, the title was pushed back to May 4, although Konami softened the blow somewhat by announcing that the European version would feature oodles of extra content including new maps, characters, and missions.

However, May 4 came and went, and the game was still not available in stores or from online retailers. On Play.com, the game shows up as "temporarily out of stock," and Amazon UK states, "We are currently unable to offer this item... We recommend that you occasionally check this page to see if it has become available." Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops was not available as a product on Game's Web site at all, whereas on Gamestation it comes up as "Out of stock."

A spokesperson from Konami confirmed that the game's release in the UK had been pushed back again and that there was no confirmed new date for the game as of press time. He said, "There was a problem with the packaging, but I'm afraid I can't tell you anything more than that."

If the game was released in EU on time, it might be worth it but I dunno now. I'm from Canada and got it just after Christmas, and while it was fun, it got old a little too quickly. I will say this though: The story was pretty good and helps make a bit more sense of the series' confusing plot. If the game came out when it was supposed to, I'd say you guys are lucky that you have the extra content, but since it's still unreleased...Perhaps this is Konami's way of saying "Sorry to keep you waiting".

I pre-ordered my copy off choices web sit and got it a day earlier on the 3rd may but all that was wrong with the case was that it did'nt close properly because the bit where it clicks together was broke when i opened it.

I got told by GAME to expect for around May 24th because they had printed all the ages wrong. They said the same had happened for Spiderman 3 On PS3 and Pirates Of The Carribean On All Formats.

It's not illegal to buy the game with the incorrect certification, but it is illegal to sell, or at the very least in a legal grey area

No since you got it from a legal site and payed for it.

I work in the stockroom at Virgin Megastore, and the problem is that the BBFC certification was printed on the sleeve, but not on the disc, which is apparently illegal, so it's withdrawn from sale until further notice.

Grr i rly hate this when this happens and its mostly Europe on general that is the target of delays everywhere else: Japan and USA all games and consoles are lanuched without delay BUT europe always has friken issues !!!

A problem with the packaging? What did they put umds inside a ds box or what?! BBFC probably... they are fussy.... Its strange, very strange why its such a long delay though. Maybe the psp market is too low in europe at the moment, and they are waiting more towards the summer holidays to gather the markets attention?

Not everyone seems to know about the recall. If you're lucky, you might find a copy in the UK somewhere. The person who forgot to add the BBFC logo must be getting a lot of stick in Konami Europe. For anyone who thinks the game isn't finished, the game is out in Europe and I have a copy and it is complete.

i bought mine from Whsmith- they appeared to know nothing of a recall. Although i must admit my local branch is a bit disorganised.

The problem is, that there ain't age ratings on the UMD disc's themselfs. This isin't a problem elsewhere in europe, but in UK it is.

Razoroo

I don't see what the problem is, the game came out on the 5th May and I've got it and everything's fine and dandy now.

More bad news for European gamers. Games Radar reports that due to the accidental omission of the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) stamp on the Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops UMD, the game won't be going on sale on its scheduled release date. The BBFC classifies and rates video games with specific themes and content. Retailers have had to return all their copies of the game because of the omission. According to Games Radar, a representative from high street retailer Game said that there has been no new release date set for Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops.

This is nothing. It's been over 14 years and Mega Man 6 has STILL not had a European release of any form. Or take Dragon Quest for instance. The first seven games have yet to appear there.

If this delay is so sudden, how was Konami able to add "oodles" of extra content?

"""Problems with the packaging", pfff. Yeah, right. The game itself isn't ready. Sony is just making (lame) excuses... Firstly, it's Konami. Secondly, I work in a Gamestation store and I played one of the held-back copies this weekend. They're just missing a rating on the UMD." they already finsihed the game so why wouldnt they have finished it? Im sure sony has a good reason for doing this: there's no reason why they should further delay a product of theirs without a very good reason." Except that Sony has nothing to do with it. It's entirely Konami. GGKTHXBAI

Konami never is really good at releasing games for Europe.

Well, I got my preorder from GAME before the recall. Shame that the printers forgot the damn BBFC logo on the umd! The logo on the packaging should be good enough and probably will if the BBFC start changing their policies for games as mentioned in their previous report.

the problem with the packaging is that they got the wrong age rating on it. i've never been unhappy with Konami until this point.

SolidSnake2020

Konami is the worst in releasing games, the MGS series always comes last for Europe after 6 months and it seems they want to make it more this time.
