MGR: Revengeance Xbox 360 canceled in Japan, on schedule for West

Konami scuttles Xbox 360 version of Platinum Games' upcoming action title in island nation for "various reasons"; launch in US, Europe not affected.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance for the Xbox 360 has been canceled in Japan. An update to Konami's website reveals that due to "various reasons," the action game from Platinum Games will not see release in the island nation. No further specifics were disclosed.

Metal Gear Rising will not rise in Japan for the Xbox 360.

Despite the cancellation for Japan, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will release for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in the United States and Europe in February as previously planned, according to a statement provided to Eurogamer.

The Xbox 360 has not been a best-seller in Japan. It regularly ranks the lowest on Japan's hardware sales charts, moving just 978 units during one week in August.

Just thought I'd chime in and be the 250th person to say that the Xbox doesn't sell in Japan.  Redundant comments are redundant.

You know it must suck to be Japanese. After BOTH earthquakes and now no MGS R on xbox... brings a tear to my eye.

nice try sony but i wont buy another crappy machine from you. i bought 2 ps1 and 3 ps2, the third just to play snake eater. your hardware is junk, i remember my big tv and my ps2 dying the same week. i dont talk about the qualities of the system but when you sell a rig 300+ usd, dont be so cheap on components. my 360 have 5 years and still run like a charm.

end of transmission.

not surprising considering the 360's never been a hit in japan, glad that theyre sticking to the western versions.

considering that there are weeks that the PS2 outsells the xbox360 it's not surprising at all

that figures... almost no one has an xbox in japan.

Who can blame 'em?

Nintendo and Playstation  are a national pride over there. They dont really like MS :)

there is a reason xbox doesnt sell as good as ps3 in japan, the japanese know good tech! while the original xbox was more advanced than the ps2, the ps3 is way better than xbox 360 :P    (cant wait to hear you fanboys cry) :P

I actually kinda saw this one coming. People get DEATH THREATS in Japan for owning a 360.. Shame. Being off topic for the moment, the Japanese cast for Inside Xbox from the last few vids I've seen are always pretty energetic when it comes to 360 stuff. Kinda sad.

I can see why they won't release the 360 version there. Considering the PS3 reigns supreme in Japan, should the 360 version have been released in a local gaming store, it would have quite literally sold maybe 1-5 copies, while being the ONLY copies there as well! As opposed to the 50 PS3 copies..

Wow, just shows 360 is basically dead in Japan :\

Microsoft should just kill off the japanese market all together. They cost more than they're worth. The 360 is meant more for western markets, there aren't enough retarded games for the japanese to be interested.

Yet another game cancelled for release on the Xbox 360 in Japan. This is really unfair for those Japanese Xbox 360 gamers.

Well, there u have it. Xbox360 hardware is less than popular over there, so they figured why waste the time when it isn't gonna sell over there. Makes sense. I haven't been a really big fan of the MGS series, but I'll still check this one out.

hope they include japanese audio with eng subtitles to quell some of the cheesiness

Would've sold like 3 copies on 360 there. No point in wasting time on something that won't sell.

"The Xbox 360 has not been a best-seller in Japan."

Well, of course.  It's almost ludicrous to think that MS could advance beyond home-grown companies like nintendo and Sony.

Whoah.. I think this game looks fly as a mofo and hope there isn't anybody in Japan that's now missing out on playing Revengeance because of this.

"Various reasons"  Thanks for clearing that up bro.

They probably don't think it's even worth it to localize or whatever ...but if it's coming out for the PS3 they already have that.  Perhaps it shows they have little faith in the game themselves where the licensing fees wont even be worth it.  Who knows but I think it's unfortunate.

All these people who are saying that the 360 can't handle this game.....is that why we can play Dawnguard for skyrim and ps fanboys cant.........oooooh too soon.

@JangoF-76 yeah, it's a parody on the entertainment industry's fetish for branding tags onto titles, like: vengeance, resurrection, avenged, this time it's personal.     Either that or it's just a desire for weirdness.

@RO-nIn187 You must be stuck in the 90s. The Japanese used to know good tech. I lived there up until recently and the consumers were probably the last people on the planet to give up their feature phones. Now their tech companies are behind the US, Korea, and Taiwan in just about everything except games.

@Vodoo The PS3 has everything the 360 has to offer plus excellent exclusives AND as you said 'retarded' games so is not about the games, they don't like the hardware.

splaxblax

I can be pretty sure they have moved on to the ps3 because of the lack of games. I am also pretty sure most of them would probably not even buy it because its not anime enough for their taste.

@mrsniper83 Except that analogy doesn't work.. Dawnguard is a simple DLC add-on using the same textures / engine / graphics as the original game, Skyrim, which is already playable on both systems. I agree with your overall point, being that 360 can handle MGR just fine, but your comparison was way off.

@RO-nIn187 J=How about you get reading comprehension beyond the 3rd grade level and read the comment you are replying to? Serious.

"They probably don't think it's even worth it to localize or whatever ...but if it's coming out for the PS3 they already have that."

Meaning it's coming out for the PS3 in Japan and it's already localized in Japanese.

They also don't buy the 360 there not becuase it sucks, it's an amazing system and the vast majority of games that come out for it that are multi-plat are superior on the 360.  They don;t have it there because their culture has strong prejudiced and xenophobic tendencies especially when it comes to supporting corporations.  Well you wanted the answer, I'll give you the obvious one everyone knows.

Reading comprehension bro?

"They probably don't think it's even worth it to localize or whatever ...but if it's coming out for the PS3 they already have that.

Meaning it is already localized in Japanese becuase it's coming out for the PS3.

"but if it's coming out for the PS3 they already have that."

In context I was just talking about localization on the 360 therefore when "for the PS3 they already have that" it means it is already in Japanese on the PS3.

2 comments the same thing needed to be explained, what is this grade school?

 @Hyperskate65  @mrsniper83

Skyrim runs terribly on the PS3.  Remember the whole framerate crawls to a halt thing? Even after the fix it has worse textures and a lower framerate - that's usually the case for most multi plat games on its system.
