Metroid Prime Hunters rumblin' for free

Nintendo bundling DS Rumble Pak with non-pinball Metroid adventure; add-on available now with Hunters purchase at "select retailers."

Nintendo is looking to get things moving for owners of the company's DS handheld. As of today, owners of the dual-screened handheld who purchase Metroid Prime Hunters will get a rumbling throw-in--the DS Rumble Pak.

Previously, the Rumble Pak was available with another DS Metroid game, Metroid Pinball. Gamers can also buy the accessory directly from Nintendo's Web site for $9.99. Currently, only a handful of DS games support the Rumble Pak.

A statement from Nintendo doesn't specifically say where gamers can purchase the Hunters/Rumble Pak bundle. It says only that it is available at "select retailers" while supplies last. Requests to Nintendo for a more detailed list went unanswered as of press time.

Metroid Prime Hunters is rated T for Teen and retails for $34.99. For more information on the game, read GameSpot's review.

what's the point of having a rumble pack.i don't see how this will help you beat the game.it'll only make you nervous and get your adrenaline up when fighting minibosses and big bosses

this game is great.but i don't see why the default controls has 4 jump buttons and i don't see why nintendo couldn't have put on lock on targeting.sigh.

I want to complain too, it sounds like fun. Bla, bla bla... don't like it, Nintendo screwd me again, bla bla bla, the thing vibrates too much, or vibrates not enough. The thing is, I have the rumble pack and it works great for me. If you got it for free and you don't like it, then don't use it. No use complaining about it.

COME ON! it doesn't vibrate too much, I have it : D

I was reading that the rumble pack isn't the good for the DS anyways. Maybe that's why Nintendo is deciding to give them away...just to dump inventory

Nintendo sure likes to do these promotions to piss of the people that ALREADY BOUGHT THE GAME! They should simply do what they did with the Kirby Stylus and offer a special promotion to get it.

This kind of thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It reminds me of the memory expansion for the N64. I went out and bought one as soon as possible, then they put one in Donkey Kong 64, so I had two of them. Great! I guess you should expect Nintendo to eventually give away something you already bought. I wish they would do something to make you feel like less of a sucker for being an early adopter. With my N64, I would have liked to be able to send back one of my memory expansions for a $10 coupon. That would have took away some of the sting.

Interesting I didn't even know they had 1 for the ds, well if best buy has it and it comes before May 16 Ill be picking one up if its after I wont because the bb coupon I have for 5bucks off will have expired then.... Oh well save money lose money.

I am also kind of pissed about this. I bought the game when it came out and while i haven't used a rumble feature at all in the last generation of games, i'm interested in seeing how it the feature is implemented in certain games (especially mario and luigi. i don't even know where they would use that) i've scouring the net for some kind of deal for the rumble pack but i can't justify spending $10 for that alone and while i'm sure metroid pinball is a great game, it just seems a bit short for a $30 purchase.

If you like realistic gaming, this is great for your ds. I don't think I really need it.

i've played it with the rumble pak in before, but i took it out. it really only vibrates when you get hit, not when you jump or shoot or anything like that. it might as well not even be there. it's slightly noisey (sounds like a tiny pig snort, or at least mine does), but not so much that it's worth complaining about.

People the rumble pack doesn't make the DS move at all. The rumble pack for Metroid Pinball does the sounds like you were playing a real pinball game. You know that rat-tat-tat-tat sound when you hit the bumpers. There are no moving parts in the rumble pack it's basically a gba pack. I actually had to turn the thing off to notice any difference which was the lack of pinball bumper sounds. People how much does it stick out of the ds lite? I doubt most people would notice that. They cannot make it any different to fit the ds lite unless they changed every gba cart. That is what the ds rumble pack is a modified gba cart.

Drill Dozer had a nice quiet rumble pack and if this is anything close it should be more then suitable it also "maximizes the MPH experience" to quote myself. Get all the mileage you can out of a game right? Well yea its stupid they didn't come with them from the start but the fact is its good marketing. I don't feel cheated I got a sweet game.

good news for those who want one

Those who already have MP:H can buy Metroid Prime Pinball for $20 at Best Buy and get the Rumble pak with that. I mean, if the thing is valued at $10, that makes MP: Pinball about a $10 value as well. You can't go wrong there.

The only word to describe that "rumble" experience is twitterpated.

I do have to say that rumble features on a handheld is one of the stupidest ideas I've heard lately. That would be like strapping an outboard motor on your TV. The rumble feature is to make the experience more immersive, but this will only make it less so I think. The screen will just blur in front of your face, and to think of only holding the system with one hand, and using the touch screen to shoot with the other, it will be hard to aim your shots with the screen shaking. This rumble feature is going to interfere with the DS's main feature, touch control.

shmave05
shmave05

I don't want something to shake my DS when I am trying to aim accurately.

why couldnt nintendo just bundle it with the game in the first place?

I'm tired of rumble packs. They make more noise than anything else, and I think some games' use of vibration was starting to give me carple-tunnel. I usually have it off by default now. Does kinda suck for people who already own the game, though.

sheep are milked because those who wanted mph the most already bought it and won't be getting a rumble for free.
