Metallica rockers playable in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD DLC

Band frontman James Hetfield and bassist Robert Trujillo to be playable in upcoming Revert expansion, due December 4 for $5.

Upcoming Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD expansion Revert contains two characters familiar with shredding, but in an entirely different way. Activision has today confirmed the game's Revert expansion will feature Metallica singer James Hetfield and bassist Robert Trujillo as playable characters.

James Hetfield soaring like never before.

The Revert expansion for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD launches December 4 at $5 on Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and Steam. In addition to Hetfield and Trujillo, it features playable skaters Steve Caballero and Geoff Rowley, as well as venues like the Airport, Los Angeles, and Canada from Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, and the Revert move.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD launched in July, selling 120,000 units in its initial Xbox Live timed-exclusive debut. The game later released on PlayStation 3 and PC. For more, check out GameSpot's review of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD.

I have the unusual fortune of having disdain for 1) this game 2) Tony Hawk 3) Metallica and 4) sports games, but I have yet to recover a red and blue suit from the capsule that sent me to Earth as an infant...

Aw no Lars so we can faceplant him off the rim of the half-pipe over and over?

I have a strong feeling that the developers of the game love Metallica, and put them in there as a tribute, not to please commenters on Gamespot.

Thank god Lars isn't in the game. All I would do with him is crash over and over on purpose.

This remake was fun, I played the holy hell out of it for about two solid weeks, but they waited way too long to launch this DLC to the point where I would have bought it if it were out sooner, but now, I've lost interest.  I'm guessing I'm not the only one who feels this way?

Lars' skateboard only comes with three wheels. You have to buy the fourth one.

Uh...

Are they adding any Metallica songs as well?

If not... I don't see the point. Or the logic.

And why did it take them so long? We were told this would come in september.

1 month later: "Metallica sues Activation for unauthorized use of likenesses"

or: "Metallica sues Activation for unpaid dues for use of likeness".

Callin' it now.

Metallica? Skateboarding? WTF?

Proof the developers don't know what they're doing.

When has Metallica ever be associated with Skateboarding outside of the odd song for a skate vid part?

All this Metallica hate. Whatever. I dig the new "Death Magnetic" Metallica. It's like they've been in cryogenic sleep since "...And Justice".

But yeah, I agree. Why Metallica? It's not really a good fit. Maybe Jello Biafra or Joey Ramone, because they would sort of fit.

Metallica are way too old to be skateboarding. But I guess if they got away with web swinging Stan Lee in The Amazing Spider man then this will do as well.

I bet the Canada level is just some tiny little skatepark in the middle of nowhere, maybe some trees, a car park, abandoned mine tracks too. Newsflash, Neversoft: Canada's quite a bit bigger than that, this is next-gen and we shouldn't have to put up with being ripped off like this. I want ALL of Canada, or no sale.

As much as I like Metallica, this is a waste of DLC potential.

What about the awesomeness of $5 getting us "venues like the Airport, Los Angeles, and Canada from Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, and the Revert move"?

sweet!  i'm going to choose james hetfield, then repeatedly smash his d-bag republican skull on the most central quarterpipe, over and over again, until he can only sing showtunes.

Jeez what a waste of time. At least offer decent celebrities or make it funny. I'd play as Justin Bieber if I could smash his face against a rail.

 @SuprSaiyanRockr To answer your question.

No, Metallica will be skating to songs by No Doubt due to contractual issues and their recent lawsuit (See Activision Vs. No Doubt). Metallica will be skating to such popular hits as 'Just a Girl', 'Don't Speak', and 'Spiderwebs'.

Of course, in the next DLC pack, No Doubt will only skate to King 'Nothing', 'Fuel', 'Fade to Black', 'For Whom the Bell Tolls', and other Metallica songs.

@Mr_Big_Boss Well, there was a Metallica song in Tony Hawk's Underground 2... (Whiplash)

@Mr_Big_Boss You do know that Hetfield once broke his arm Skateboarding which prevented him from playing for a period of times, as such his management company put a clause in his contract forbidding him to do it...research yo.

@eddyoshi It was fun for the handful of hours it took me to get every challenge done..  Haven't touched it since.  Actually I've logged more time in THAW, THUG and THPS4 since it came out..  So yeah, I'm probably going to pass on this dlc, unless there's some sort of super mega discount pack at some point that puts it around 2 bucks.

Jedilink109

@F-Rott Garage Inc was awesome, but they weren't playing THEIR songs. Good stuff though regardless.

@CyberElfSlut They need to keep the guy with his tongue stuck to the pole though.  Seems like every winter when I was a kid the teacher would have to come out with a cup of hot water to free some dumb kid.  Then there was good ol' Matty, who just decided to pull his tongue off, and until the next warm day, there was a little wee bit of flesh stuck to the fence.

@blitxxx1981 Yeah I'd have thought, "loads of new awesome levels in new DLC" should suffice.

@blitxxx1981 Yeah, that more than makes up for adding those boring, low-life cookie cutter shadows of their former selves.  I still own and play THPS3, it's the best in the series, IMO.

Or Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez, Hanna Montata. A lot of annoying celebrities to choose.

@mrboone01  @Mr_Big_Boss  You honestly think they would  gone through the whole ordeal of putting a special clause in his contract just cause he broke his arm one time? He used to skateboard, alot. Activison getting more use out of Mettallica outside of music games isnt a dumb move, seeing as they kill the music game genre.

@Whole-Lotta  Oh don't get me wrong, I've loved Metallica since I was at school (20+ yrs ago :P) - I just dunno why I would wanna skate as them ;)
