Metal Gear Solid V: New Gameplay Coming Next Month -- What Are You Hoping to See?

Konami to hold a special 60-minute Phantom Pain preview event on August 13 in conjunction with Gamescom.

Konami announced today that it will host an "exclusive gala evening" next month in Germany where, among other things, Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima will reveal all-new gameplay for the upcoming open-world game, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Taking place on August 13 at the Musical Dome venue in Cologne, Germany alongside the Gamescom conference, this 60-minute special Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain preview event will be hosted by games journalist Geoff Keighley.

Konami will reveal the "latest details" on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain during the event, while Kojima himself will "exclusively present new gameplay" for the title. This video will showcase what Konami describes as the "impressive capabilities of Kojima Productions' breathtaking FOX Engine and more."

According to Konami, what the publisher will show from The Phantom Pain will give you an idea of the "sheer scale and ambition" of the game.

The special event will also include a live Q&A session with Kojima, as well as a "few surprises." How can you get in? It's not clear just yet, but Konami says you can win your way in through a series of competitions and partnerships to be announced later. Further details on ticket availability for the event will be announced "shortly," Konami says.

If you are not able to attend the Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain event in person, you'll be able to watch a stream on Twitch. The event begins at 8 p.m. CET on August 13. The game is coming to Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4, though no release date whatsoever has been announced.

Earlier this week, Konami officially announced its Gamescom plans, saying it will bring Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and PES 2015 to the show. In both cases, Konami plans to show off "major advances" to the games during the event.

GameSpot will be on the ground at Gamescom, which runs August 14-17, bringing you all the news as it happens.

I have an idea, what about  making and updating a new  side or compain missions to the game with time.

Metal Gear Online info please. I'm thinking you'll be able to infiltrate other players mother bases. It would be so cool to try and set up your own mother base to be impenetrable with surveillance cameras and guard routes.

I want them not to give too much away. Part of the problem with the industry these days is they reveal waaaaaay too much info before the game is released. Call me old school/old fashioned but at least a little mystery is a big part of the fun especially in a story driven game like mgs. I'm expecting to see more gameplay which is fine, but as a die hard mgs fan i at least want to be surprised about the story, and knowing Kojima, he'll be very tight lipped about any plot details

I really enjoyed the E3 gameplay video in 1080p & 60fps. Hope to see more of that in this event.

And I hope one of the surprises is an announcement of the PC version of MGSV.

If it's not David Hayter replacing Sutherland I won't be playing. Please Kojima! Do the right thing and bring David Hayter back.

Changing costumes (taken off of guards) to do stealth would be cool (kind of like in the old Hitman games, when that mechanic worked), however it's probably way too late to actually make any suggestions that involve any substantial work.  But despite that I have to throw it out there, since it is done in so few games.

Wonder if the new Xbox One SDK will allow this to run at full HD.

Well, first of all, I want to see a release date. Next, I want to see more mission environments other than the Middle East's sandy deserts. Best if it could span across the whole world as Big Boss on his way to create Outer Heaven. Third, some old faces, any their story, Eva, Paramedic, Sigint,.... Then last but not least, Chico in tights and officially confirmed as Quiet.

An area other than Afghanistan. I really hope the whole game doesn't take place in that one area. MGS4 had a lot of variety to the areas you explored.

I'm hoping to see another news report use an image of a child soldier from the game so people on here can flip out again.

I JUST want the game to come out. A whole year of trailers is going to annoy to me to no end.

Content doesn't matter, just make sure there's a side by side BONE VS PS4 graphics comparison.  Nothing else matters.  But its cool.  I heard rumors that this is an exclusive BONE/PS4 title--the only way to play it is to own both consoles, buy both editions, buy a friend and a 2nd TV, then run both copies of the game at the exact same time side by side.  While your friend plays the BONE version (Why wouldn't you make your friend play the bone version? I mean duuuh), and you play the PS4 version, you need to play the game the exact same to ensure that the third person, who is breathing heavy and lurking over both of your shoulders, in the room can see the differences with their own eyes.  If you and your friend don't sync up exactly, then the MGSV resets itself and you must start over from the very beginning.

Hayter is a god awful voice actor. Go take your senseless nostalgia somewhere else.

@wookiegr  It will probably run well enough that the average human being cannot tell the difference, like most of the other AAA games where graphical comparisons have been done.

Eva is entirely irrelevant to the story. Let's not turn this into fan service for the sake of fan service like 4.

@dominoodle To be honest I doubt that will happen because Kojima knows that because of how he planed out the previous Metal Gear games but TBH many of us vets are waiting for Kojima to show off Metal Gear Online 3 and I for one hope it will be for both Sony and Microsoft Consoles due to the new fans poring out

@berserker66666  Check out Deadpool, there's an excellent scene in that game.  Not next gen, but is a good indication of the possibilities...ahhhh...

@Bienio11  You aren't the only one, the Fox Engine looks like it would be right at home on a powerful PC, with it's great physics based lighting and weather it could really use some extra power to keep it running smoothly plus  gameplay elements like being able to lean on the side of your horse to not be seen look like great fun.

I think we might see MGS V PP on PC at some point but I won't be holding my breath, if it looks good enough and it turns out as fun as it looks I'll get a PS4 for it.

@Rotondi  I'm imagining a press conference, Sony and MS announce they are no longer competitors and now all games require both systems linked together to play.  Console war over :).

@Erroneous_Snake he's campy, not awful. in fact i would say he complimented the earlier games, but mgsv is a different animal

@Erroneous_Snake Hmm......, considered that she's simply the mother of the main character of the series and that she dumped him right after birth. Then yes, you did make a point there.

@berserker66666 @mkeezay22 @Bienio11  Yeh well with Steam making PC gaming sales rival consoles in some cases it would be stupid not to, in the last few years I have seen what I consider the re-emergence of PC as a gaming platform that is accepted as a place for mainstream games as well as traditional PC style games like MMOs, MOBAs, and tactical games like Total War, for a while during the PS3/360 era we weren't getting a lot of ports for games that could easily be done on PC, games like Alan Wake which started as PC projects became exclusive to MS and some hidden gems PC gamers might not have enjoyed like Enslaved later came to PC, but only after Steam released it's years sales figures which showed huge growth in the PC gaming sector.

Now almost every multiplatform game is coming out on PC, and for good reason, PC gaming profits beat all consoles profits combined last year.

@hermitkiller The purpose being to force people to buy virtually the same piece of hardware several times for a few exclusives.
