Way back in July of 2007, Konami North American and European operations head Kazumi Kitaue suggested that the PlayStation 3-exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4 might have to go multiplatform. Late last year, Konami confirmed that would indeed happen--sort of--with news of Metal Gear Solid Touch for Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch systems.

Gamers can now see exactly how Solid Snake's final outing made the transition to the multipurpose portable. Metal Gear Solid Touch has gone live on Apple's App Store with an asking price of $7.99. Developed by Kojima Productions, Metal Gear Solid Touch features many of the same locations and characters of its PS3 counterpart in 20 levels of action-oriented gameplay.

Players can flick the screen left or right to move Snake, tap to fire weapons, or "pinch" the screen to zoom in and out with the sniper rifle. In addition to following Snake on his last mission, players will earn Drebin points that they can spend to unlock dozens of iPhone wallpapers.

I bought this game along with Oregon Trail, and I have to admit, I had more fun playing Oregon Trail. I know games on the iPhone have their limitations, but I was expecting more from Konami than this overpriced Flash shooter rip-off. Oregon Trail had much better production values than this, and alas, it was much more entertaining.

@AsiZaNDragon Well, it is the developer's choice you know. :P

@WKK 50 / 8.5 = 10. Good job you're the best. 4-5 discs wouldn't even be that bad. Lost Oddessy was 4 discs but that didn't stop those hundred thousands of people when they bought and played the hell out of it.

@Todaishi Bungie didn't have stupid reasons (in my opinion) for excluding the PS3 from Halo. Kojima "doesn't like" the console and the way he's ridiculing the 360 proves that he's cutting the game off from millions of people who WILL buy it just because of some 'preference'. Bungie's contract is over with Microsoft anyway so I'll be you'll see a port of Halo or something like it in a while.

@hajjjustin That's not how it happens...the 2nd disc reference is to the original MGS which took place on Shadow Moses. You enter the same place where you put in the second CD in the original game making fun of the old PS not xbox.

I really dont care about playing this game on my iphone , because I love small addictive games on the iphone , but on the ps3 I call it the king of games .

who cares if they go multi platform i have both PS3 and Xbox 360 and i like both of them im a Gaming fanboy, but you PS3 Fan boys are nuts and say dumn stuff like MSG will be ruined if they go multi plat form, maby it will ruin it for you PS3 fan boy but by no way will it ruin the game, PS3 fan Boys will just be mad cause they lost another exclusive to the Xbox fan boys. also have any of you PS3 fanboys played MSG4, if you did than how can you say comments that it would take 8 disks to put on Xbox, in MSG4 they make a comment durring the 2nd half of the game "here is were you put in disk 2 Snake oh yeah were on PS3 not Xbox Sorry" they say that in the game they say that in the game THEY SAY IT IN THE GAME!!!!!!!!!! i mean WOW really it would take only 2 disks to port over to the XBOX. You PS3 fan boys your twice as bad as the Xbox fanboys sometimes.

@Quadster Im not sure if this is true, but i've heard that the reason the 360 was scrapped for MGS4 was the port would have to be put on 4 discs, because BluRays have massive storage unlike the xbox discs. This is pretty cool and innovative though.

Its just a gimmick, a stupid knockoff, i would rather buy a PS3 and buy the game and actually enjoy it rather than playing it on a phone

What surprises me is how all of you posting here are taking sides between Sony and Microsoft. The real issue here is what happens when Apple comes out with there system!! I cant be the only one sees this happening!

i have to admit i was kinda mad HK had glutenous visions of what he was expecting of a system with regards to his MGS4 Project and eating up 50Gb of data, but failing to realise only 3-5% of players might have full 7.1 systems, (Lossless as opposed to uncompressed would have sufficed with GBs shaved off) even a 5.1 speaker system (which more people have) would've gone down just as well, which would've taken even more off the disc storage used. I think with the game could've been taken down to smallest of say....20-25Gb as graphical rendering doesn't take up too much space nowadays (Just look at the industry benchmark titles (Crysis for example) on the PC which uses 12Gb which is a fair bit better looking than MGS4 graphically speaking) but i'm not complaining as now i have a PS3 (Preowned) and i was just itching to play MGS4 again. it's really the only game i've been inclined to get so far. Also, i can't say i'm not disappointed Kojima decided to snub the 360 purely because of its "Lack of Blu-ray" as it would've saved me buying a PS3 altogether.....don't get me wrong it's a nice system, although lacking a little bit, shame

Kit_Sakurazuka
Kit_Sakurazuka

goat god 3...Actually, if my data is correct, MGS4 took up all or most of a 50GB (dual-layer) blueray even after compression...and I'm told that a 360 disk has about 6.4GB of usable space after Microsoft's system files...So if you do the math MGS4 would take about 8 (7.8125) disks on the 360. Even if the full ~8.6GB (?) on a dual-layer DVD were usable, it'd still be 6 (5.814) disks...If its true that MS charges the devs per-disk for a game, theyd probably have to double the price of the game for Konami to actually make any money off of it, and then they wouldn't anyway since noone's going to pay $120 or more for JUST a game with no extras. Of course, MS might pay for a game like MGS4, or at least waive any fees, in which case this argument isn't worth much...Stupid MS, though, if only they'd gone with HD-DVD for games, the format and console war would probably have gone their way entirely, instead of just vaguly leaning in their direction...

@ NoEbay - dude, I agree totally.... It's like that army of people who petitioned to stop Devil May Cry going multiplat.... how sad is that!? Multiplat is the way forward for most non in-house titles since it makes the devs more money to invest in more, bigger, better games for ALL of us. Fanboys are ALWAYS the losers in all this, no matter what drivel they dream up to defend their one and only system. Us intelligent people will enjoy games on ALL of our systems thank you very much... On the MGS iPhone subject - looking forward to giving it a try, just hope it's worth the $8 price tag.

ive noticed a couple of comment below about blu ray disk size.... That really isnt a factor... if it couldnt fit onto one dual layer dvd... then 2 or 3 would do the job. Not to say it should go over there to 360, just saying its perfectly feasable. Btw mgs4... un-be-freakin-leavably awesome. I want more... but i dont want them to hurt such a perfect series. keep it greasy

great, they wasted their time. they really should of gone with a remake of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 (i mean the NES ones) fighting the first metal gears and grey fox in a mine field in up to date graphics with a updated story would really kick arse.

wow, you know it's bad for sony when there fans get this deffensive. just WOW some of the things written on here. calm down everyone. If mgs gets ported to the xbox donh't blame kojima or xbox. blame sony for not paying enough. microsoft is willing to spend to get games to themselves but sony seems to think they are to good for that. You cant blame developers or microsoft. if microsoft and developers make money doing it it's a good business decission, it's not shamefull or againt sony fans its business. You think when sony was top dog microsoft didn't feel the same way, why do they get all the exclusives. Fair is fair and sony has not kept up with the times. MGS4 is awesome, i own both systems and mgs4 is prob my fav game on both. If it gets ported some how good, it will make kojima more money to make the next game faster and better. Cant you all see that?

" buffdaddy69 Posted Mar 19, 2009 10:16 am PT One thing that i think is funny, is that people are saying "Hideo would never EVER let MGS4 go to the 360. Last time i checked, Konami PUBLISHED the game, So its basically up to Konami if they wan't to do a port or not. If the money can be made, then they will do it. I Personally don't think that MGS4 will get ported over to the 360, But i will say this. For everyone that says that the 360 won't be able to "Handle" MGS4, Well...just the fact that they can put Metal Gear Solid 4 on a iPhone even if it isnt a straight up direct port, means they can put it on a 360 if they wan't too." Sorry to correct you on this, but the LAST I had heard was that Kojima was the VP of Konami and in charge of many of the company's assets and projects. Also, his decision to have MGS4 on the PS3 was largely due to space constraints (25 to 50 gigs on one Blueray disc versus 8.5gigs on the largest dual layer DVD) and his long standing relationship with Sony.

No way Kojima himself had any production in this. Seen some game play and it was utter trash.

Another thing that people probably haven't thought of, Is that maybe Sony is actually bitter being number 3, Because the last two generations, The Playstation was hands down the system to own. Dreamcast? Get the **** out of here. Gamecube? pfffft. Now everyone in America is opting for a Wii or 360 because maybe Americans don't like paying 600 + dollars for a big lunky peice of crap where you have to spend an additional 60 to 100 dollars for HD Cables that should of came with the system. And the fact that some of the big games are coming out for all the system and they arent just restricted to just one console just to play one game. I own a 360 and a PS3. My game collection is mostly 360 games with two PS3 games, being Metal Gear Solid 4 and Warhawk, the only two good games to come out on the PS3 since launch date.

soniksmybro

so...instead of doing Metal Gear Solid Wii or MGSDS, they opted to go for the smaller, not so powerful iPhone? wow...great way to expand the franchise guys!

" WKK Posted Mar 19, 2009 5:32 pm GMT When will fanboys stop arguing, seriously, MGS 4 will never come on the 360, it can't, the disc space is too low, for crying out loud, even the original files of MGS 4 was bigger than the bluray disc itself, so they had to compress it. No way in the heck can they do it, unless they use like 9 to 12 discs of that crappy HD disc or decrease the graphics and cut some stuff." Bet. While you're playing Metal Gear Solid 4, i'll be busying playing GTA VI: The Lost and Damned and its other episode, giving me 20+ hours of gameplay, along with the Fallout 3 DLC that the PS3 will not ever see. =-)

@thenephariouson: Spelt is acceptable British English. Saying it is incorrect is like saying "colour" is incorrect, which it is not if you do not live in the United States. You may want to educate yourself before you go point out someone else's mistakes to make yourself look good.

I am a Metal Gear Solid franchise devotee, and even I am disappointed in this release. Other than fine visuals and a rousing score, this is not deserving of the Metal Gear name, as it is little more than "Hogan's Alley" with the imagery of MGS 4 as a theme. The tactical roots of the series are abandoned and the earmarks of a Kojima game--theatrical presentation and narrative--are completely lost. Some have said that this is a "phone game," and that is precisely true. It could've been accomplished, functionally, on a flip phone five years ago, notwithstanding the presentation values. The iPhone strives to be something greater as far as a gaming platform, and this simply doesn't cut it.

BigWill413 Your post is so insanely ironic I would almost think it was a joke if it wasn't for your tone. The best part is that you edited it due to a spelling error that was completely irrelevant. "lol @ Lordrave for grammer." -1 (GRAMMAR) "Lordrave, stop using the phrase 'so called.' Your doing it wrong lol." -1 (YOU'RE) " The way you use this phrase implies that it is actually something less then a Ps3." -1 (THAN) "If that is what you meant then your wrong," -1 (YOU'RE) Those are 4 seriously embarrassing GRAMMAR school mistakes. Context and arguments aside, you fail at life.
