played mgs 4 without prior experience with franchise. could'nt get what was hype about. then when mgs hd collection came out, started with mgs 1. have to say its OMG awesome. still to play mgs 3 and mgs pw.
They should add Portable Ops as DLC for the Legacy Collection- not including it to begin with was kind of an oversight. Either that, or Hideo should come right out and say it isn't a true part of the story (which is a shame, because that is the game that has Grey Fox's origin!)
Lets get one thing strait, that's 33 million games sold with each installment in the series offering something generally new, with adequate development time. MGS is known for great stories and strong game play. COD, Madden, FIFA, and HALO take an old horse and ride that son of a gun and feed it to consumers year after year. They sell more boxes simply because they release a major installment every year. MGS should never be in the same category as these cookie cutter games.
@boosey36 there are around 8 cannon games which are : MG , MG2 Solid Snake, MGS, MGS 2, MGS3, MGS Portable Ops, MGS 4, MGS PW.
1 remake : MGS The Twin Snakes (remake of MGS 1). 2 spinoffs, MGR Revengance and Metal Gear AC!D (2games for AC!D).
2 collections in total, MGS Essentials (PS2) and MGS HD Collection, and now the Legacy collection is the 3rd. so the overall count of MG games (not including collections and remakes) is 11 games in 25 years. while CoD released 18 games (19 including the only big expansion) in the course of 9 years!
@sket1234 Lots of people would have bought both, even people with interlect sometimes like to play an arcade shooter and ignoring the lameness of the number of CODs released, it is still a fun competitive shooter
That's all what Activision does, look at Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Guitar Hero and lame movie-based games. When they stop selling they just kill the series, they are just marketing whores laughing at the face of customers. And even that... it's mean for the whores who actually work harder than they do.
@steelmouth Yeah, it's like saying "This is all very good, but not as good as *these* franchises". Should we also compare every movie's success to Avatar? Every book's success to the Bible? You can't help that some things have large, dedicated (crazy?) fanbases. That's especially true with the Bible, they've been selling the same product for like 2000 years, CoD ain't got nothing on that.
no, wrong on every account, as chains of a olympus, and ghosts of sparta are BOTH chronological, regardless of platform. but apparently, "portable games" are NEVER apart of the series' universe right? that's like eliminating the Kingdom Hearts games on portable platform, and saying that there are only two games in the series on console.
I'm talking about tangible games ones where u can buy them from a store they all account to sales at the end of the day
Not a cod fan I hate the game but all I'm saying is metal gear has about the same amount of games out I've also missed the 2 acid mobile games and social ops off that list as they was not world wide release
@Branden_Lucero Microsoft has admitted to milking the series ever since the release of Halo Wars. There would be alot more Halo games if Microsoft ever released a handheld device. All 7 Halo games are console games, while 4 of the 7 God of War games are console games. When it comes to consoles releases, Halo has been milked more.
@Branden_Lucero Last time I checked, all of those games didn't come out for the same console. When they quote these figures, I'm pretty sure these figures are used to reflect the sales of major installments for home consoles that make up the bulk of the game sales. God of War 1,2, and 3 are major installments. You wanna talk about Halo? from 2000 to 2008 3 game were released; Halo 1, 2 and 3. From 2009 to 2013 5 games came out for xbox consoles. from 2005 to 2010 3 games came out, 2 for Ps2, 1 for Ps3, and another 3 years later. Which has the better development path for recent game history?
@boosey36 true, but i don't consider MGS Twin Snakes or MGS Snake Eater 3D or the HD collection are games, sure the account to the total sales, but they are just the game being sold again for a different platform. and don't you dare mention Snake's Revenge ! :)
@raiden-94@Branden_Lucero no, wrong again. you can deny it all you want, but Ghosts of Sparta AND Chains of Olympus ARE chronologically set in the God of Wars timeline. platform DOESNT matter. that's like eliminating Kingdom Hearts games on portable, despite their titles ALSO being chronological, and saying there are only 2 games in the series.
@Branden_Lucero@jediapprentice If Sony stuck to console development like Microsoft has done, then there would only be 4 God of War games. Their are alot of people even fans of the series, who have never played the handheld games and probably never will. Do to the fact that their non-essential pieces of the overall canon, which is why they are handheld releases and not console.
it doesnt matter, because all 7 god of war games as well as all 7 Halo games, are chronological. if they were spin offs, i wouldnt include them, but since they ARE apart of the series' universe in that sense, they get included regardless. number of platforms dont matter.
no, Halo 1 started in 2001 and ended in 2007 as far as the "original trilogy goes" 6 years 3 games
God of War started in 2005 and ended in 2010 as far as "original trilogy goes". 5 years 3 games
in the mean time, Halo Wars and 3: ODST released in 2009, bringing the total up to 5 games in 8 years.
in the mean time, shortly after God of War 2 came out Betrayal, which would "Actually" bring it up to 4 games in 5 years.
in the mean time, yet ANOTHER God of War game [Chains of Olympus] the following year of God of War 2, putting it "at the time", 4 games in 3 years. so by the time God of War 3 came out, that already puts it at 5 games in 5 years.
and in the next 3 years, 2 more God of War games have surfaced, while in the next 3 years, 2 more Halo games surfaced.
No one had to, just proving the fact that Halo always gets the fingers pointed to them, in fact. if we were to "minus" Halo Wars for being an RTS, that would bring it to 6 games in 11 years, and take out Betrayal in God of War, which is a mobile game, and that's till 6 in 8.
