Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes requires a hard drive on Xbox 360

Make sure your Xbox 360 has a proper hard drive if you're looking to play MGS V.

by

The Xbox 360 version of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will require an Xbox 360 with a connected hard drive, Konami has said.

The game comes with a warning on the front of the case stipulating the requirement, and does also not support installing to a flash drive, which means owners of the Arcade or Core Xbox 360 models will be out of luck.

Konami says Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes on Xbox 360 requires 1.7GB of free space. It also appears to be possible to install the game to a hard drive from the Xbox 360 dashboard, which Reddit user qmznkrv says caused additional problems when attempting to run the game.

Alongside the Xbox 360, Big Boss' latest is also available on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

I still scratch my head about the 360's that have no hard drive. I mean WTF? It's 2014,no one should have a console that can barely hold one large game. I can't help but think it was a greedy move by MS, but I could be wrong. I will always spend the extra money for the better item, tightwad or not.

So much hate for this game. Yes, the main store is about 1-2 hours long. But if you're an achievement hunter like me, it will take 10+ hours to 100% this game and for a game that is $20 on Games on Demand, it's not bad.

I've played 6 hours already and only have 10/15 achievements.

Also to those complaining about the 1.7 install, well you obviously need a bigger hard drive (It really isn't that much, compared to the 8Gb Halo 4 update)

first indefinite titan fall release date, now this it's like Microsoft has totally abandoned the 360

Will I be able to install on the 12gb ps3 model. If I am right it uses flash storage too.

Why is MS intentionally designing stuff to piss off the Xbox faithful? I'm starting to think all the staff at MS own stock in Sony.

SIgh... I wonder why Kojima doesn't release it on PC... he said he would like to.

It'd sell gang busters, and I'd buy it.

This kind of problem was predictable even nearly a decade ago when they started selling the "arcade" version of the xbox - make a poor consumer choice, be ready to suffer for it.

Does anyone still have a working Xbox 360 Core these days? Seems that the 4GB flash memory model will be alright. You could play Metal Gear Solid 5 Ground zeros and that's it. The Arcade xbox 360 flash memory models came in 256MB and 521MB. But I thought that MSG 5 Ground Zero would not work with flash Memory Xbox 360's So the 4GB models S and E wouldn't work either?

Who buys a console without the hard drive? Almost everything requires an update or a space to save your game. Shame on 360 for selling it that way too.

Konami took their time announcing this little hurdle. Can't say I'm all that surprised, but a bit of a warning would've been nice.

You know, for those that it actually affects.

360 getting bit old, eh?

For all those who keep trolling about the game:

You guys want game lenght instead of quality? go buy ACIII or Skyrim and enjoy the endless bugs and glinches, along with the downgraded visuals from trailers to final product (that actually IS a real moneygrab). Have fun!!

The coolest part?  It's only 19.99 on xbox live.  Save 10 bucks and digitally download it.

I'm not familiar with the series.  Is that dude supposed to look like Snake Plissken?

I call that lacy programing...

You'd have to be an idiot to buy this game, it's the epitomy of a cash grab and nothing more.

@Lord_Python1049  Easy to pirate games on pc. Good thing is nobody would be bitching about the game's length or price.

@kkrakhed Still about ten bucks off from being cool enough to buy, for me.

@SingletreeAve YOU ABSOLUTE NOOB WHY DONT YOU SPEND A COUPLE HOURS RESEARCHING SOMETHING AND HOPE YOU FIND THE ANSWER TO THE SIMPLE QUESTION YOU ASKED. But yeah there is some inspiration taken from him. If you play MGS2 there is an actual reference to the name plissken

@SingletreeAve  My recommendation: buy the Metal Gear Solid HD collection for your 360/ps3 first. Metal Gear is one of those series where you really should play the previous games before moving on or else you'll just be loss. Heck, you might have to play the game more than once to grasp the story. It's not incredibly deep or mind-grasping, but it it is all over the place. If you do get the HD Collection, start with MGS3 then Peace Walker. That's the beginning of the story that leads up to MGS:V.

@Warlord_Irochi Yes, when the gamer cognoscenti doesn't get their way, it's always because someone is "lazy". How about the technical specifications aren't sufficient to support what they are trying to accomplish. And if you're going to use the world "LAZY" at least spell it correctly. But don't tell me, let me guess; "dis izn scholl".

@19James89 And you need to be a self-entitled moral police wannabe to tell people when or where not they should burn their money into.

@19James89 Ironically there have been many demos I've ended up playing more than most games. Dead Rising Case Zero, Tomb Raider TRL, Hogs of War and Mechassault come to mind. If gameplay is good it's easy to play the 1 hour game a dozen times or more.

@l0ne_wanderer It's easy to pirate games on any console. Quit pretending that console players aren't pirating the games as well.

@Warlord_Irochi Now you'd have a point if I was actually telling people not to buy it. Nowhere have I said people shouldn't buy this game.

Please learn how to read.

@PrpleTrtleBuBum @19James89 ME3 MP demo wasted so many hours of my life. My 3 college roommates all had 360s, so we played faux-lan parties with ME3 quite a lot.

@Slim_Lyrics @19James89 This is where one would normally get into an argument about what constitutes a complete game or not, but honestly, it's your money, do whatever you want with it, I don't really care.

19James89
19James89

@Slim_Lyrics Listen I'm just stating my opinion as narrow-minded as that may well be, but I'm sure people think I'm an even bigger idiot for buying a Wii U, so it's all subjective.

SingletreeAve
SingletreeAve

@niteryder1 @SingletreeAve Whatever. It was just a simple question.  So does Konami make me pass a test before purchasing the game to ensure that I don't dilute the quality of its clientele?

PlatinumPaladin
PlatinumPaladin

@niteryder1 @SingletreeAve  Christ-alive, everyone has to start their journey of discovery somewhere. SingletreeAve probably posed the question here because she/he thought they'd get an informed response from any of the many Metal Gear fans that were sure to be reading this article.

Instead they're met with an entirely unhelpful and frankly rude follow up question. I can only assume 'asshole' is your default setting.

unreal101

@19James89 @unreal101 You can't just call free speech on everything. Yes, you have the right to express your opinion, but when you lower yourself to insulting the people you're talking to - and this happens on GS every fucking time - no one gets anything out of it, and you're certainly not going to convince anyone.

19James89
19James89

@unreal101 Yes I did and I stand buy that, I've branded people idiots for continually supporting EA. I have a right to air my opinions as much as you have a right to challenge those opinions and have a right to buy whatever you wish.

However I take exception to people who do not read properly and then churn out absolute waffle. In the last twenty minutes I've had someone stating that I called the 3DS poor which is simply not true and now this moron is sounding off because he/she thinks I'm trying to stop people buying this game.

Warlord_Irochi
Warlord_Irochi

@19James89 "You'd have to be an idiot to buy this game"

Because that doesn't imply it, right? If you want to judge what is smart or stupid to do at least have the maturity of not hiding your hand after you threw the stone.

CaptainHerlock
CaptainHerlock

@19James89 @Slim_LyricsJust because you are "stating your opinoin" that doesn't mean someone isn't going to disagree with you, which I happen to. I don't think it's a "cash grab". It's a prelude to a larger game. The whole thing about "a two hour demo" is one of those things that the gamer cognoscenti has repeated until it became "true". The gamer cognoscenti has conflated length with quality. Look up the term "McDonaldization".
