Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes launching spring 2014

Konami confirms $30 prologue to The Phantom Pain will be available early next year for $30.

by

Konami announced today that Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, a prologue to the events of The Phantom Pain, will be released in spring 2014 on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4.

The game will be available to download on Xbox One or PlayStation 4, or in stores for current-generation consoles, for $30. Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners will also be able to download the game for $20.

Ground Zeroes runs on the Fox Engine and features a day/night cycle, as well as dynamic weather conditions that affect gameplay. Missions are designed to help players understand the game's new control and gameplay mechanics, Konami said.

Concerning story, Ground Zeroes will follow Big Boss and he infiltrates a Cuban prison camp on a rescue mission. Players will encounter "explosive plot lines," as Big Boss finds himself on enemy soil in a heap of trouble.

The Phantom Pain, also coming to current- and next-generation consoles, will pick up where Ground Zeroes left off, introducing players to a "new breed of open-world stealth action," though no further details were released.

Konami did not announce a release date for The Phantom Pain or provide pricing information for the game.

Wow, a Japanese dev actually making something about their game less confusing. Still kinda scratching my head a bit, though

Thought mgs5 was the phantom pain? They were the same game with ground zeroes as a prologue? So confusing. Also, the lack of david hayter had better one of kojima's strange jokes.

Did I say that? No. All I said was that the graphics look pretty bad to me in this picture compared to what we've seen before.

The next-gen versions of this game better have a RETAIL DISC version & not some download-only crap (-__-)

This coming spring, huh? Alright, but the bigger question is - how far away is the release of Phantom Pain in relation to Ground Zeros?

Sucks that Next Gen will only be digital. Would be willing to pay a few extra greenbacks for a physical copy.

one more thing, prologues usually come with the game, so we might as well wait and save that 30$ to spend on food and shilter...

So length-wise, is this a very expensive demo, an expensive DLC, an expansion, or what? I like that Konami is trying something new, but this model is confusing.

But how much will this $30 prologue being released next year for $30 cost?

I'm definitely getting it because I am a die hard MGS fan. I hope it's a decent length and not just some short campaign that will take 3 or 4 hours to complete. I'd like to hear more info on what this is about. I to like almost everyone else thought this was part of MGS5 in the sense that it would be part of the whole package. Like the tanker and virtuous mission.

what the hell is wrong with them, they didn't finish the MGR and now new games?!?!

Thanks Konami for cutting your game in 2 and charging us 25% extra for the initial project...

I was hoping this game be release in Dec or end of Dec. At least it gives me enough time to save up for this game. I guess the only game I'm getting at the end of 2013 is only Ghost.

Bastards.

You already know there'll be a complete edition later down the line. I may just hold off on getting Ground Zeroes anyway. If it ends in a cliffhanger and then there's a years wait for The Phantom Pain, I may not make it.

I think the next year will be a clash of the titans between games like:Metal Gear Solid V:The Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes,Watch Dogs,The witcher 3:Wild Hunt,Thief, the evil within and TOM CLANCY'S THE DIVISION.

Sucks that the game will be released in two parts. I thought it was all the one game. Still, it beats having to wait until the end of 2014 :)

Hummmm. I smell a 10 hour campaign game.

I thought once he said Ground Zeroes was the prologue I thought he just meant that it would be like the opening mission with Solid Snake in MGS 2.

finally a rough release date :D

it seems so strange that some people hadn't realised they were going to be two seperate games yet,

I hope the game does come out for pc even though I don't have good one, as a fan of games as opposed to consoles the more who can get this the better, let everyone experience the sexiness that kojima has promised ;)

Download-Only on next-gen.

Available in stores for current-gen.

I see we're going for the "backwards is forwards" approach in the coming generation.

So 30 for gz then 60 for the Phantom pain don't know what people are complaining about. In Australia that's the price of a game without a dlc

Watch it get pushed into 2015 lol, I hope it releases in spring, but if it ain't ready by then I can wait for perfection

@Mo60 Watch Dogs has no chance going up against MGSV... same for Evil Within... the caliber in MGSV is just so immense from everything you can think of compiled into one. Example like GTA V for the open world, many way to complete mission, stealth, etc.....

BTW... where is the game Cyberpunk 2077 ?

@R083R70 It's still an opening... and i seen this coming based on the things kojima has said about it (clearly hiding the fact) basically saying that it was separate

@PSYCHOV3N0M Based on the info there, the prequel could be anything from a glorified tutorial to half the length of the actual game, if the actual game have two maps of similar size to the Cuban prison camp.
