Medal of Honor: Warfighter arriving in October - Report

[UPDATE] Danger Close bringing shooter sequel to shelves this fall; will run on DICE's Frostbite 2.0 game engine with multiplayer developed internally; first image available.

The next Medal of Honor game has crept from the shadows. According to the Official Xbox Magazine (via Game Informer), the new game is titled Medal of Honor: Warfighter and is due out this October.

A first look at Medal of Honor: Warfighter.

Developed by the original game's Danger Close studio, Warfighter will run on EA DICE's Frostbite 2.0 engine, which powered Battlefield 3. The game will reportedly follow a group of Tier 1 Operators, as was the case in 2010's Medal of Honor.

And while Danger Close will be using DICE's game engine, it won't be calling on the studio to once again handle Medal of Honor's multiplayer component. According to OXM, Danger Close is bringing Warfighter's multiplayer component in house.

No mention was made as to which platforms Medal of Honor: Warfighter will ship for, but the 2010 game landed on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

According to the magazine, publisher Electronic Arts will have more details to share concerning Medal of Honor: Warfighter at the 2012 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco next month. EA is holding a Medal of Honor-themed event in that city on March 6.

[UPDATE] Developer Danger Close has provided the first image of Medal of Honor: Warfighter. It is embedded above.

I like this game but as a usual game. not as games like CoD or BF3 ... And It's for many reasons like i don't play MP and The Singles player of this game is not prefect as other games ... In the other hand, games are for satisfying people but this game acts like it's against "..." anyway it's a good game and a respectable game. TNX EA and TNX DC.

medal of honor hasnt been good since Allied Assault. Allied Assault was epic and still is. D-DAY on Allied Assault was seriously awesome. I expect a lot more out of these franchises with nextgen hardware. I want to FEEL like im a part of a serious squad of dudes that are taking out towns and defending positions and feel like a real war is going on down the road for nextgen or at least a REAL FULL ON hardcore fun battle is happening, not just follow this 1 guy thats running, telling me whats coming up ahead and tons of on-screen markers everywhere. Im sick of that. This entire New Generation of FPS's are really becoming bla bla.

isn't the title going to infringe on Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter franchise ? EA and Danger Close need to be more creative and find another title. I enjoyed MoHs singleplayer campaign but it was way too short and ended just as the action was begining to heat up nicely, I just wish they make the sp campaign longer this time.

@Sgthombre LOL. "a win" LOL.... how deliciously sad. What would be the point of talking about games with you? Your tastes are so refined, so above the rabble that I just couldn't keep up and apparently neither can the entire games industry. "a win" ....LOL ... oh sh|t that is funny. It takes a special person to admit something like that. Wow.

@Stonecutters908 Way to respond to yourself. And I reported you for calling me "numb nuts", saying I only have 4 brainsells, Calling me a brat, and so on. So, yeah. And again, you don't know me. I'm not shamlessly representing myself. "sgthombre" is an inside joke with a friend of mine from when we were in the 6th grade that ended up becoming my gamertag and username for stuff. I guarantee that there is no one here who thought "Wow! His name is sgthombre! He must be in the military!" Also, congrats on essentially giving up on actually arguing about game on a game site. Kudos. So I'll chalk this up as a win, and move on with my life.

Am I the only one that when first heard the name was actually thinking about Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter?

@Stonecutters908 The reason "they dropped the ball" is because I did nothing except call you out and that isn't against any rule. And I am not mocking soldiers. I am mocking you. You are not in the rangers or any other unit in the military. Just because you may know someone or have a relative doesn't mean anything to me. It doesn't give you license to sling their slogans around at will with the name "Sgthombre" like you are one in the same. My best friend went to Iraq and so did my brother in law. Yet I can resist the urge to go "Semper Fi" at the end of my comments. Why? Because I would feel like I was shamelessly misrepresenting myself.

@Stonecutters908 From when I reported you. It appears that Gamespot has dropped the ball. Oh well. Oh, and thanks for again mocking people who are fighting and dying for you freedom! I'm sure they must be thrilled.

I was very disappointed in the MP of the last MH. Unless I see something better I will probably pass on this one.

Active Soldier here, 13A. The only time I've seen the word "warfighter" in the military was on the packaging on MRE's, lol. We don't call each other warfighters or anything so commonly, more so "warrior" or "killer," and usually in a joking way. It's no big deal though, if someone called me a warfighter I'd just be indifferent. 'Cause yeah, I fight wars.

Sgthombre
Sgthombre

@Hortey I don't know about that. I have a brother in the Army, a good friend in the Air Force, and two more in the Marines. I have never heard them use "warfighter" once. I could be wrong, but I'd be surprised if am.

@Blackheart_RE not really, well maybe to anyone who doesn't know military lingo. It's about as redundant as having a war game named battlefield. Or black ops, or modern warfare.... I dunno why people are jumping all over warfighter. Ignorance is my best guess, not trying to offend.

Hortey

@supertom221 Warfighter is actually a very widely used term inside the US military, it's in a bunch of other games as well. Ever wondered what GRAW stood for? I'm excited about this game. New engine with microdestruction, the MP is not by dice (IMO they royally screwed up both moh 2010 and bf3), co-op modes, and a 1 shot kill hardcore mode for MP. Lay that on top of a top notch campaign like last time and I'll gladly grab this one day 1. My only issue with the last MOH was the MP, played the campaign 4 or 5 times in a month before I returned it and picked up bad company 2. I REALLY just hope the maps are bigger and there are no COD killstreaks.

With the last one being a disappointment, I'll wait for the review.

@emperiox I already knew that? I just find it a little weird you are comparing a FPS with an MMORPG....and Runescape is a piece of crap by the way.

I'd actually like to see no online multiplayer on this one. Medal of Honor has always been about the great single-player campaign.

I really hope Warfighter reinvents the Medal of Honor franchise in the way fans expected Medal of Honor (2010) to do, but ultimately failed. In other news, Warfighter is a dumb name. Fighting war...with war?

There are so many better names out there to name MOH and they choose WARFIGHTER, unless the next MOH is actually street fighter sytle fighting game based in the Afghanistan War this name sounds really really stupid.

@Stonecutters908 Once Homefront came out, what did all the reviewers say? "Single player too short, multiplayer enjoyable." True, from a marketing standpoint it was the single player, but as soon as reviews started coming that went out the window. Next, you don't even know me. You've read three of my comments, and now you think I'm self centered? Ok, cause that makes sense. Next, get of the whole "You suck a at shooters!" as an argumentative point. It's completely irrelevant to this. Let's for a second say I am terrible at shooters. Me being bad at shooters doesn't affect my perception of where the industry is going. I feel that the whole thing is becoming redundant, and that's why I'm not happy about all of this. And if you're going to claim that third person and first person shooters are the same thing (Which they aren't), then you at least need to acknowledge games like Dead Space and Shadows of the Damned have no place in a discussion about multiplayer military shooters. Also, I end my comments with "Rangers lead the way" because my Brother is in the Rangers, and it's out of respect for them. So I appreciate you mocking him you "master of logic" (Was that an attempt at witticism? Because it failed... hard.) And you failed to take my advice and find an actual argument to make. Again, you're just insulting me personally. Enjoy the notice you get from the admins.

Stonecutters908
Stonecutters908

@Sgthombre Let me give you some advice, the reason that you most likely suck at competitive shooters is because you think it is all down to reflexes. You aren't thinking (no shock from me) about what you are doing, you are only reacting to what other people are doing, so yeah, it that point it is about reactions but if you think while you play (big if in your case) and learn maps and learn tendencies (not hard with 4 functional brain cells, you got?) it is certainly not about reflexes. Not even close. Especially in Battlefield 3. If you think MW3 and BF3 are that similar you haven't played one of them because their similarities are at most superficial. I feel this way because I have eyes and ears. BTW: you are straight up lying about Homefront. It is the setting and story of a North Korean take over of the USA that was the main marketing point of that game and that is found in the single player of course. It being a short game and bad game is irrelevant you master of logic. Rangers Lead the way !

Stonecutters908
Stonecutters908

@Sgthombre First off, yep I've played all the CODs. When I crap on stuff, I like to have played it first unlike yourself obviously. I haven't bought one since MW2. It's called Gamefly numb nuts. I don't use that "My Collection" section to show the games I actually have in my possession. I use it to keep track of my ratings for all the games I've played at any length. The My Ratings section is broken, with many mystery blanks and you can't sort it by platform at all for some reason so I don't use it. I still don't actually have all my NES cartridges either or SNES, or my Genesis (all that stuff is in my parents attic on the other side of the country I believe). Second, I am so sorry that you don't consider 3rd person shooters to be just that, shooters. I wasn't limiting myself that way but if you need that first person perspective I totally understand as it makes complete sense considering your self centered personality.

I thought this MOH was a move in the right direction, although the multiplayer would need some serious tweaking. It seemed like everyone wanted to use snipers, and stay at their spawn and wait until you cross down a certain path on some maps, then take you out! Over and over and over.... and.......over.., oops, I started a flashback!

Sgthombre
Sgthombre

@Stonecutters908 Also, I know that not ever game is going to be a Bioshock. I'm not asking for that. I'm simply asking for publishers to not bank in multiplayer in military shooters in their FPS. You listed Homefront earlier. (Your analysis of it was flawed, as the single player was only 4 hours and the multiplayer was the main selling point.) That is a perfect example of a publisher, THQ, thinking that it could make money simply off of people paying for the exact same experience plus a couple of extra bells and whistles. I don't have distain for the people who play these games. As I said, I love military shooters, that's why I want them to stop before it ruins itself for everyone (Also, how is that self centered?) Also, going to have to dispute your "I Haven't bought a COD since MW2" statement. Check your profile. You have Black Ops listed under "My Collection", do you not? Nice try, kid. Come back when you have a real argument before you resort to calling what I have to say BS and then calling me a brat. Second Rant over. Rangers lead the way.

Sgthombre
Sgthombre

@Stonecutters908 Where to begin.... First of all, I know Dead Space 2. I own Dead Space 2. Clearly you don't, because it's not a first person shooter. I suggest you play it and find out that it is... wait for it... a third person shooter. Same with Shadows of the Damned. If you're going to argue that there are good single player first person shooters out right now, then you should consider using first person shooters in your argument. Next, clearly you haven't been reading a lot of the comments from your fellow Gamespoters. A lot of us are sick of two completely different studios putting out roughly the same game. Lets compare MW3 to BF3. Short single player? Check. Over emphasis on multiplayer? Check. America vs. Russia? Check. Stand alone co op missions? Check. Perks? Check. Gun mods? CHECK. Moving right along to twitch reflexes.... yeah, that is what it's about. I've played quite a bit of MW1, Black Ops, Battlefield 2, and MW3 to know what I'm talking about. Am I really good at those games? I don't really care. But don't for a moment think that I my opinion is based solely on noob bitterness.
