Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, Electronic Arts' latest World War II shooter, took the top spot on NPD Techworld's list of best-selling games for January 2002. The game was followed by The Sims: Hot Date--EA's latest virtual-life game expansion--in second place and EA's Harry Potter fantasy-adventure game in third. Fourth place went to EA's The Sims, followed by RollerCoaster Tycoon, Infogrames' theme park management game, in fifth.

The latest weekly list of best-selling PC games was also dominated by EA, which took the top four spots with Medal of Honor, Harry Potter, Hot Date, and The Sims. RollerCoaster Tycoon came in fifth, followed by Microsoft's zoo management game, Zoo Tycoon, in sixth. One notable entry on the list was GodGames' first-person shooter sequel Serious Sam: The Second Encounter, which jumped into eighth place in its first partial week of release.
