Medal of Honor storms the charts

Electronic Arts' first-person shooter takes the top spot on NPD's latest list of best-selling PC games.

Electronic Arts continued its habit of competing with itself for the top spots on NPD Techworld's latest list of best-selling PC games. Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, EA's latest first-person shooter, surpassed Harry Potter and The Sims: Hot Date in its first week of release to secure the top spot on the list. The game is set in Europe and North Africa during World War II, and it lets players assume the role of an Allied soldier on a series of missions behind enemy lines.

Second place went to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, EA's adventure game based on the best-selling fantasy novel by J.K. Rowling. The Sims: Hot Date, EA's latest virtual-life game expansion, dropped back to third place this week after enjoying several weeks in first place. The Sims itself slipped down one spot to fourth place--still an impressive position, especially considering the game was first released more than two years ago. Activision's popular first-person shooter Return to Castle Wolfenstein climbed to fifth place from sixth place the week before, possibly due in part to an $8 drop in the average sale price of the game compared with the week before.
