MechWarrior Online update planned for April

Developer introduces new class of mechs, community events, and interface improvements.

The official MechWarrior Online page announced that it will be launching new content and updates for the game in April.

MechWarrior fans can expect a bevy of changes this April.

The new content includes the addition of artillery consumables, air strike options, cockpit items, and a new line of BattleMechs called Champions. The new mechs come equipped with a permanent 5 percent experience boost and custom configurations.

Other additions in the update include improvements of team options, which allows players to join two lances with a commander each and assign lance commands using the battlegrid, and some tweaks to the user interface in-game. Players can also expect 12 versus 12 modes as well as more community events like double XP weekends.

Check out the official post for more information on the update.

The exact date of the April update is yet to be announced.

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY AND PURE AND GOOD IN THIS WORLD can we have a Single Player Campaign for Mech Warrior?

I have played MWO, it's fun and the graphics are pretty good but only so much as I'm not a big fan of online games and I'm sure lots of fans out there arent either and would rather play a proper SP campaign just like the old days (remember MW1, MW2, MW3???)

Heck, throw in all the DLCs you want, and I sw3ar I'll lap it all up!!!

Please devs, or creative director or whoever has the wherewithal to make a gajillion fans dreams come true --- could you please PLEAAAAASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY AND PURE AND GOOD IN THIS WORLD do a Firaxis for us?

(Do a Firaxis = give the fans what they FRIGGIN want in the first place e.g Xcom)

I miss the Xbox games, those were fun (if simplified).  Did MS give up / lose the license for this game?  I obviously haven't paid much attention to it haha.

Please let this game die so that a new and better one can be made.

The developers of this game, PGI, are some of the worst communicators in gaming history. They also make changes that make things worse and don't make any sense.

For starters, the basic game rewards are broken.  You get rewarded for doing nothing in a match almost as much as you get rewarded for killing the entire other team.  There's no incentive to actually trying to win in the matches.

Lastly, every patch they break something major.  And when they try to fix balance issues with weapons, they either go to one extreme or the other, never making a logical choice to find some middle ground.

I started off as a founder for MWO, but after a couple months of the closed beta I instantly knew this game was going downhill fast.  Months later after open beta, it's still going downhill.

As a longtime Mechwarrior fan, playing MWO was super stressful to the point where it wasn't even fun anymore.

I urge you all to skip this game, instead go buy MW4 or some other Mechwarrior game.  MWO is nothing more than a lobby based arcade style mech game with some Mechwarrior stuff mixed in, and with very poor developers who would rather promote their in-game cash shop than to fix basic issues with the game first.

Just for the record, I have around 300 matches played, but stopped playing a couple months ago, although I do check in from time to time to see if anything has changed.

Is this any good?

Please tell me it's not like Armored Core; hopefully, it's more like Chromehounds.

I play this on a regular basis and it's a game with a lot of potential. The action is good and if you're a configuration junkie like I am, you can spend a LOT of time in the mechlab tweaking your mechs.

What I really like is that PGI has been really good about staying away from P2W. The paid items just help you earn cash and XP faster or they're just bling like fancy paint schemes etc but they provide no real battlefield advantage over the non-paid stuff like you'll find in other games.

That said, these April updates are pretty meh. They still haven't implemented any of the elements of Community Warfare like forming clans (guilds) or planet defenses etc. It's just 8v8 Assault (deathmatch) or Conquest (ressource control) at this point so hopefully we'll get some more content soon (they've said it will be out in the next few months).

So is this game any good? Been tempted to try it for a while, does it play well with a joystick like the old Mechwarrior games?

I really enjoyed playing this game it did have a lot of bugs making some matches unplayable but hey its a free beta so i dont care.

Some times I still boot it up for a few matches i recommend every mech fan to give it a try

That hero mech "Heavy Metal", if it's an Atlas then I just might finally put some money into this game, because that's what I've been saving for.

They should be implementing Clan tech soon as well, I want a Mad Cat dang it.

@keyb0red I agree that I was somewhat disappointed when I heard that this new mechwarrior was going to be free-to-play multiplayer several years ago.  I will admit however that would have been riskier than the type of game that eventually was released.  Think about where the Mechwarrior franchise has been the last few years - completely dead.  No one was making games for it.  Microsoft was just holding onto the property and had zero intentions of reviving it.  Basically Piranha Games obtained the franchise and has done their best to revive it by making the game as widely available as possible.

The developers have said they would have Loved to make a story driven campaign style game.  But This franchise was in desperate need of revival, and this was the best way to do it.

I expect if this game does well, it will signal the return of the Mechwarrior franchise, and we should see more games be announced and released in the future.

@keyb0red Yeah, even Mechwarrior 4 and its many expansions had a single player component.  It'd be nice.  I bought MW4 and all of its expansions including Mercenaries.  The single player stuff was nice, if sometimes very challenging.

@nickpeck36 "MechWarrior® is a registered trade-mark of Microsoft Corporation and is used under license. All other trade-marks are the property of their respective owners; ® or ™ as indicated."

No, they still own the rights but are licensing the publishing to "Infinite Game Publishing."

@Landsharkk

I agree with some of what you're saying and felt the same when I briefly tried out the game in November however I recommend checking in again because they've changed most of the stuff you've mentioned. I came back to it about 2 months ago and they've made some really good changes for the better.

Rewards are now completely performance based. You get about 50k C-bills if you do nothing (and your team wins) but it can go up to 350k if you perform well.

They've also changed their patching schedule from every week (which tended to add a lot of see-saw bugs) to every 2 weeks with patches that are, I'm assuming from the results, more thoroughly tested before release.

The game types are sadly still scarce I agree but I think overall it's coming along pretty well if a lot more slowly they originally planned.

@DarkSaber2k About joysticks, you can play with a joystick but you'll be gimping yourself tremendously.  MWO was designed to be played with a mouse, so the aiming is closer to twitch based aiming, but with Mechwarrior weapons.  A joystick would be way too slow or put you at a major disadvantage.

Nevermind, it's a highlander. And I can't believe they released a hero mech before the free variant, they never did that before.

@LesserAngel I dont see clan mechs ever seeing the light of day with this developer.  It takes forever for changes to be implemented and whent hey do it adds a huge host of bugs.

@acecs1989 @X-Blackrose Dude the old armor core games are amazing and have a hell of a lot more freedom and options than any mechwarrior game, yes armor core is a lot more fast paced but was brilliant in it's early ps 1 and 2 years, but then they ruined it after the armor core 3 game.

davidsworld3

@MAD_AI yeah and it's 35 bucks! 35 bucks for a purplish/pink mech with no better stats that you can get with an atlas.

@DarkSaber2k @Landsharkk I'd say check out the beta, I think it's enough on the sim-side, but only you will be able to decide for yourself. :)

Been playing it on and off, just too many other games that also demand my attention, and since it's in beta I don't want to commit a crapload of time to it just yet.
