MechWarrior Online patch adds 12 vs. 12 combat

New update to also include new Hero mech and new map.

Infinite Game Publishing and developer Pirahna Games announced today that the latest patch for MechWarrior Online will introduce 12 vs. 12 combat to replace the current 8 vs. 8 mode.

MechWarrior fans can check out the new mech Kintaro this week.

The game's creative director, Bryan Ekman, said that the new combat format would give players more options for creating strategies and new attacks and defense schemes. The latest update also introduced a new Hero Mech called Kintaro (or "Golden Boy"). The new offense-heavy mech has a 30 percent C-bill bonus and carries three SRM-6s, two SRM-4s, and four medium pulse lasers.

The patch also brought in a new map called Terra Therma, which is a surface of a moon where volcanoes erupt and the ground shifts at times. Full details of the patch are listed on the official post.

This patch was actually out on Aug 6th, not today. If you follow the link to the MWO site it confirms it. Sorry GS, a little behind on the news...

I'm a big fan of Mechwarrior, but I'm a bigger fan of Battletech.  I wish these guys would expand to things beyond mechs.  When it's nothing but mechs on the field, the player doesn't get the same sense of scale- the mechs don't feel "big" unless there are cars and tanks and infantry and helocopters and jets fighting with them to make the player feel big and powerful.  Otherwise, I feel like I'm playing a slower version of Quake.  I would love if they made a map or a game mode where the two teams of player-controlled mechs fight along side computer-controlled troops, tanks, and aircraft.

Also, melee combat :D

the first mech warrior game years ago was awesome. would love for that to come back with updated graphics.  To the Makers of this game- IF you give me good controller support , you can have my money in spite of the current game's flaws.  I truly miss this game, but in its current form it sucks.

they should stop spamming PAYPAL mech's into the game and focus on the game's huge flaws.... like no music crapy interface horrible mechlab crapy economy Unuserfriendly Mech controlls and the total lack of a 3rd person camera witch is like playing world of tanks in 1st person view only........

They should've restricted 12 v 12 for the large maps, 24 players on the small maps just feels too crowded, 8v8 was better for them.

Why the screenshot is worse than first wave of closed beta. I did get an invite and tried the game. I dont think many people with PC can handle the action. Its like Crysis with Blur ON. And faster. More animations and some maps even these big guys can Disguise.

I've had some had times trying to see targets far away in Machine like maps.

Heh, 3rd person camera right now is the most unpopular demand on MWO's forum.

This is a simulator not an arcade game like World of Tanks. Giving 3rd person view gives a tactical advantage over those who prefer 1st person. 

3rd person is going to be implemented, much to my dismay and many others, but luckily from what I'm reading it will launch in the testing grounds (tutorial) only then it will have it's own servers, i.e it will not interfere with those who want to stick with 1st person. 

And what you listed are hardly any huge flaws by any standard, the game's huge flaw right now are high Alpha sniper fire (i.e combined 2x ERPPC with 1 Gauss rifle) and getting pinpoint accuracy. What this game needs is scatter or cone of fire to fix it.

@MAD_AI @arqe @predatorGS Didnt played MechWarrior but when you max all settings in Hawken you can see the MAP details and effects.

Oddly enough MechWarrior  is the game that uses CryEngine 3 while Hawken uses Unreal Engine 3.
