Mechs storming DS

Sandlot unveils new action game for Nintendo's portable with more than 100 robots to choose from.

Japanese magazine Impress Watch reports that Robot Alchemic Drive creator Sandlot is preparing another giant-robot action game, this time for the Nintendo DS. Chousoujuu Mecha MG will put players behind the controls of 30-meter-tall robots called "Mario Nation Gears." There will be more than 100 varieties of mechs, not all of which will be simple bipedal robots. Some machines will resemble insects, while others will transform into vehicles. The mechs will also have a variety of weapons, from bows to firearms.

The top DS screen will show the game field in full 3D, and the bottom screen will show the mech's controls, which can be operated using the touch pen. The layout and operations of these controls will vary depending on which mech the player is using.

When they're not fighting through missions, players will also use their mechs to stage races or transport resources--and it will be necessary to chose the right machine for the job. Chousoujuu Mecha MG is scheduled for a September 2 release in Japan and will sell for 4,800 yen ($41).

I read my Nintendo Power today, and there is a small section about this game. Here it is. "The mech-game market in Japan is all about one-upmanship, and Super Control Mecha MG seems poised to set the bar, though no release date has yet been announced. The DS game includes over 100 mechs that are more that meets the eye, each with unique transformations such as bulldozers and scorpions, plus mech-specific touch control." -Steven G. Nintendo Power This game sounds really cool, and the screen shots make it look fun too. I'd like to get this game when it comes out...though, I'll need more information before I get it. The screen shots show all of the controls of the mech on the touch screen, and the actual mech that you're piloting is on the top screen. This looks so cool! If I figure out how to post images, I'll post the screen shots from Nintendo Power. I can't wait for more information on this game!

I found a translation of the title: "Super Control Robot MG." Just thought people might want to know.

Both Thunderbirds ans Captain Scarlet were filmed in "Super Marionation", as were a few other things by Gerry Anderson. As such, I don't think it could be anything but marionettes...

Your right, Vulpis. All the articles I've read say "Marionetion Gear" and given the context, I can't imagine that that would be a reference to anything other than marionettes.

I've got a bad feeling about this. Come on, if you're a gamer what's the first thing you think up when you hear the name "Mario?" A game that's owned the top spot for quite some time now? Sounds great, as far as I'm concerned. Just another DS title to own up the sales as usual.

Gee, folks--ever stop to think that it might 'Mario Nation' might be a mis-translation of something related to 'Marionette'? You know, the puppets controlled by pulling their strings?

Hahaha... "Mario Nation Gears." I seriously hope that doesn't get changed in translation. I'm always up for some crazy Robot-on-Robot violence. Especially "Mario Nation" style.

Well, R.A.D. was pretty sweet (at least, the demo I played was) so maybe this will be equally as awesome.

I've got a bad feeling about this. Come on, if you're a gamer what's the first thing you think up when you hear the name "Mario?" They may as well have called this game 'KoopaWarrior™'. :P

This could be very cool if it has multiplayer support.
