SCEA has announced that it has signed Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb as the official cover athlete for NFL GameDay 2002. The game, which will be released on the Sony PlayStation and PlayStation 2, will incorporate a new animation engine that, according to the developer, will produce more realistic and forceful tackle, drag down, and blocking animations.

"Donovan McNabb exemplifies the tonality and competitive spirit of NFL GameDay 2002,'' said Kelly Ryan, director of sports product development at SCEA. "He has the ability to step to the line of scrimmage and take over a game with his skill and sheer athletic ability. Whether he is scrambling out of the pocket and launching a touchdown pass or juking a defender to pick up a first down, like NFL GameDay 2002, Donovan McNabb is unadulterated excitement on the gridiron, and we are proud to have him on the cover.''

NFL GameDay 2002 will be released later this year.
