Movie star Matt Damon would be up to star in a superhero movie, but only if it had the right director, someone like his friend and collaborator Ben Affleck.

In an interview with the Irish Examiner at the premiere for Jason Bourne, Damon said he's not optimistic that there are any available superheroes left to play (via GamesRadar).

"I'd consider anything with the right director, but I can't imagine there are any superheroes left," he said. "I think they're all taken at this moment."

If Affleck was the man behind the camera for a superhero movie, Damon said he would "jump on it in a New York minute." But there's another issue to be considered as well.

"The problem with Ben is every time he directs a movie, he gives himself the best role in it, so until he's willing to give up the best role to one of his friends, we're not going to get on with it," Damon said.

Affleck portrayed Batman in this year's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He will make an appearance in August's Suicide Squad as the Caped Crusader, before playing the role again the upcoming Justice League films. He's also going to star in and direct a standalone Batman coming later; it's currently titled The Batman.

Damon and Affleck collaborated on and starred in the 1997 Oscar-winning movie, Good Will Hunting. Damon will be seen on screen next as Jason Bourne in the movie of the same name, which opens later this month.
