Matrix Games today announced that it will publish Starshatter in North America this summer. The space combat simulation game, which is currently in development at Destroyer Studios, will see players starting out as a fighter pilot or commander of a small starship and earning promotions as they progress through the game. By the time they near the end of the game, players will be commanding a massive fleet carrier with three wings of fighters and a complete escort of warships.

"When we spot a superior game, we do our best to bring the developers on board," said David Heath, director of operations at Matrix Games. "We're very glad to have a chance to work with Destroyer Studios. Starshatter is set to raise the bar in a number of areas, and we look forward to helping it succeed."

"We're excited to work with a publisher that has proven experience in both the strategy and science-fiction genres," added John DiCamillo of Destroyer Studios. "We believe Starshatter will give Matrix Games' customers an innovative and intelligent take on space combat and strategy that will be a must for any space and strategy aficionado."

Starshatter will feature four single-player campaigns as well as a number of mission scenarios designed for head-to-head and cooperative multiplayer games. The game will also ship with a free 3D modeling program and a mission editor tool so that players can easily create their own ships, weapons, missions, or even galaxies.
