Mass Effect 3 Datapad app retired today

Electronic Arts pulling free companion app from iTunes today, suggests players use N7HQ instead.

Electronic Arts has announced that the Mass Effect 3 Datapad app is being retired and will be removed from the iTunes app store today.

EA gave no reason as to why the app is being taken offline. The company suggested players check out the mobile-optimized N7HQ instead.

The Mass Effect 3 Datapad app launched in March 2012 and was a news and video hub for the spacebound role-playing game.

BioWare is currently at work on the next Mass Effect, described as "fresh and new."

I see two reasons: lazy and cheap

Too bad, the clock part with the scrolling views of the Cities in ME3 is pretty sweet! could have been quite an asset to keep.

The app was made to remind people how many hours they wasted getting to that crap ending.

That thing was crap. You would be lucky if you could get it to connect to their servers more than once a month.

its was only on apple and barley any one knew about it

I haven't been able to get the app to function for months. I still have it installed though because having a codex with me is pretty sweet when I feel like getting back in the ME universe.

sorry finished ME3 2 times and stopped playing, iccendintly I played ME 1 7 times and ME2 13 times (as in full play through, not even counting the experimental games)

go figure

Who cares? You don't need to boost your EMS anymore. BW patched the EMS so low that even complete retards could get the best ending without touching multiplayer.

. . . and yet, so many people are praising the rise of digital distribution.

That sucks. Almost as bad as 2K Sport killing the servers for NBA 2K11 & 2K12 while 1000's of people are still playing the game online. Idiots.

So without DLC content, I am guessing you have to play MP to get your EMS over 5k?

Crap now I am been forced to play Multiplayer to maintain 100% galactic readiness in this game. Great, so much for MP is optional. Another lie by EA/BioWare.

supprise supprise, they are shutting down servers

I didn't really care much about it myself; I just stuck with the multiplayer which still ended up being fun and the best way to boost EMS. Still they wouldn't take down the multiplayer yet would they?

I have a feeling this is going to end poorly...

The game is old now, and they most likely want to send support for this app.

Aw... I really liked the codex. Better save a copy of the app.

@COPMAN221ISBACK Of course it would be. What's the point of selling the full game anywhere near full price when you can get the entire collection for $40?

@PSYCHOV3N0M I guess it will be "COD"-like fresh and new. By which I mean that the game will feel like COD and not that the gameplay of ME remains exactly the same.

@vadagar1I just finish ME 3 1 time and stop, but I remember playing ME1 7 times and ME2 12 times........ I wonder why I didn't play ME3 more times :)

@taker3434  I think if you had a full paragon all missions ME1 + ME2 save imported into ME3 you didn't need to play at all multiplayer even before patch.

thorn3000
thorn3000

@taker3434 yeah, since people were complaining that without playing 2-3 multiplayer games you could not have the best ending...

jimbothef

@Riddick123 You don't need an EMS that high to get the best ending so it doesn't really matter.

WhiteStormy

@Riddick123 So what happens when EA kills the multiplayer servers.  Getting EMS up high enough will be impossible.  Thanks Bioware.

@blackothh This never should have existed in the first place. Not when the final game was full of graphical glitches and bugs.

It makes my head hurt watching the characters run in the game ... it's 70% complete .. yet still got good reviews ...

Comments that are all agreeable would be boring to read. And I rather like the reassurance that I'm not the only one with good taste.

@Leodux @the_big_doggg Are you blind and stupid? Are you actually putting forward the idea that the ending provided proper closure to the series? Wow, I guess some people can be satisfied with anything.

1stormbringer77
1stormbringer77

@b10nutz @vadagar1 I think it was because the ending, even after them TRYING to make us feel better by giving us the ending dlc to give some closure, still sucked and it just wasn't worth it to you(& many others).

joesguy
joesguy

@b10nutz @vadagar1 Might have something to do with Mass Effect 3 being contrived, plot circumventing pigshit. Mind you, Mass Effect 2 was as well, and yet was infinitely more enjoyable, so that can't be the only reason.

tomservo51

@b10nutz @vadagar1 I played ME3 two times and realized all the 'choices' I made in the game didn't mean squat in the ending. Total disappointment. They need to re-do the whole paragon/renegade thing.

Oozyrat
Oozyrat

@b10nutz @vadagar1 Lol I guess I'm the only one that preferred ME1 and ME3 over ME2. I thought ME2 had wayyyy too much errand running. Do this for this character so they won't die in the end, repeat, do task so this person joins, do them more favors so they won't die, look for more people etc. Idk, maybe I missed someone and everyone is of course free to like which ever games they want to, but it's surprising to me that so many people liked ME2 the most, especially over the first one. Also, a good thing to do with those games (if you still have them all) is to start a new file on 1 and go through them all. My brother and a lot of his friends have done that over and over and still seem to play the franchise more than any other.

Breyant

@thorn3000 @taker3434 I never really understood the complaints anyway. The only thing EMS even effected was seeing the gasp scene for destroy, right?

Riddick123
Riddick123

@WhiteStormy @Riddick123 Hopefully they patch the damn thing.  I have been using google to see how to increase the EMS..at least for PC there is a file you can tweak.  Xbox and PS owners are screwed unless they patch it on EA's side

joesguy
joesguy

@tomservo51 @b10nutz @vadagar1 Why stop with the ending? None of the choices you made in previous games mattered at any point in ME3 beyond the arbitrary EMS score.

@Oozyrat @b10nutz @vadagar1 ME2 dlc like shadow brocker is best of all and i think part 2 dlc making it best because they are in great number and interesting, yes there was useless resurse probing, yes there was sick long running with carracters and could make you bored but it was great anyway and ME3 is just awesome but you dont have streanght to play it agean when you know ending and nothing will change it but till and ME3 is best of all 3 games

taker3434
taker3434

@Breyant @thorn3000 @taker3434 Well the difference is basically (trying not to spoiler anything) life and death. I think it also changed a couple of scenes in the EC (your crew refuses to place your nameplate on that wall) and the mood is a bit happier.

thorn3000
thorn3000

@Riddick123 @WhiteStormy the thing has already been patched looooooong time ago...I only started to play multiplayer AFTER I finished singleplayer with the best ending....and that BEFORE DLCs such as leviathan, omega and citadel where you gain even more points...currently it is no problem at all in singleplayer even without any paid DLCs to reach the required ems level...

Riddick123
Riddick123

@taker3434 @Riddick123 @WhiteStormy  I was not aware the EC patched lowered it.  Thanks for the info.  I multi played the 360 and PC versions to 100 percent before that :)

taker3434
taker3434

@Riddick123 @WhiteStormy You're both so silly, it's not even funny. You can easily get the highest required EMS without multiplayer! After the EC-patch you only need 3100 EMS for the best possible ending! This very easy to achive, without a single DLC.
